| Political Talk|| re: False Balance = stifling of debate - N.O. via West-Cal on 7/9/14 at 4:07 pm|
The general notion that equal time is not always appropriate has been out there for a long time, and we probably all agree with that point of view when you get to the extremes. For example, do any of us really believe that holocaust deniers should be given equal time when discussing that tragic pie...
| Political Talk|| re: Why only 10 years for Nagin? - N.O. via West-Cal on 7/9/14 at 1:55 pm|
Nagin got a good draw with the sentencing judge. Berrigan is smart and I have never heard a word, even of pure gossip, that she is corrupt. But it's pretty well known that she is quite liberal when compared to other judges in the Eastern District.
I look forward to reading a little more about w...
| O-T Lounge|| re: Can someone please tell me wtf a plant operator is and what they do? - N.O. via West-Cal on 7/8/14 at 1:58 pm|

| Political Talk|| re: What could Rand accomplish as President with an R controlled Congress? - N.O. via West-Cal on 7/3/14 at 9:29 am|
One ENORMOUS thing he could do regardless of the composition of Congress is repeal Obama's executive orders and directives to federal agencies. This alone could do wonders. Energy, trade, and even much of the ACA are within the president's SOLO powers. Whatever Obama did with his "phone and pen" c...
| Political Talk|| re: Great article on the Hobby Lobby case and broader ACA implications - N.O. via West-Cal on 7/2/14 at 2:12 pm|
"Good article but not likely to resonate with those who should be listening the most."
Well put, HC. I enjoyed the article, but I am already in the camp of those who would like to repeal the ACA, uncouple health insurance from the employer/employee relationship, and attempt to craft more market-d...

good opinion piece in WSJ today on this very point. Charles Murray, I believe.
| Political Talk|| re: Is America on the Wrong Side of History? - N.O. via West-Cal on 6/27/14 at 11:30 am|
Thanks for the kind words, badlands. And for what it's worth, I want to emphasize that I truly believe what I wrote. It is easy to focus so narrowly on the things we don't like that we miss the big picture, which, in my opinion is one of greatness, in the present and especially in the near future. ...

| Political Talk|| re: Is America on the Wrong Side of History? - N.O. via West-Cal on 6/27/14 at 9:10 am|
The US possesses the world's most powerful fighting force, is not threatened in any significant way by any nation or group in terms of its ability to govern itself as it sees fit, and sits atop sufficient resources to power its growth for at least a century or two. This is all despite improvident wa...

"Are these things just inept decision making, local profiteering, politics?"\

Nope, at least not on a large scale that the concept of the illuminati implies. We humans are an amazingly fractious lot, and never underestimate the ability of the most ambitious of us...
| Political Talk|| re: Cheney unprecedented attack on Obama---really strong criticism of President - N.O. via West-Cal on 6/18/14 at 2:11 pm|
I read that this morning and agree with much of it. However, I found this quote startling:

One could easily apply this line to the decision to invade Iraq. ...

Being arguably the second best program in the country over +/- a decade means that football remains in its Golden Age. Yes, it sucks that the inarguable #1 program over that span is in our division, but it doesn't take away from what the program has accomplished - including an SEC championship and ...

IF the thinking was "the 5 Taliban were going to be released, so let's get somethign for them," at least there is some logic to it. The question I have is "why were they going to be released anyway?" Is it because we're pulling out of Afghanistan? What conditions justify their release? If they we...

I think I say "multi-racial" or "mixed ancestry" on the relatively rare occasions I use any of these terms. "Biracial" is limiting as it refers to just 2 races, and for a number of folks I know, that's just not enough.
As for the identification questions, for Obama, etc., I really don't care ho...

Here is the starting five I would pick out of those:
1 - Magic. I am not the biggest fan of Magic's but no one has played the point like that, with that combination of size, vision, and everything else. Small guards could give him a little trouble but he gave it back to them ten-fold.
2 - MJ...

"look at the value of our ticket prices versus those schools."
That may not be an apples to apples comparison. We are not paying seat license/tradition fund fees when we purchase a single game ticket to a road game. What you would have to see is what LSU charges other schools for seats to our g...

"You can't really blame LSU for raising prices if the demand is there."
Agreed. And i don't blame them. However, I also agree with the thrust of Oyster's post above. We've had season tix since approximately 1996 (plus or minus a year). Tix are now priced at over 100 bucks per game, the kids' ...

| Political Talk|| re: Does BP get a look by the Supreme Court? - N.O. via West-Cal on 5/28/14 at 3:44 pm|
I don't think the Supreme Court should grant cert in this matter, mainly because I don't think there is any real legal principle at stake so much as BP simply wants to renege on a deal that is proving more costly than they anticipated. Anyway, here is Supreme Court Rule 10; you be the judge! :lol...

It's funny because I can't even begin to remember this. My guess is that is because my memories of Games 1 and 2 are so vivid. Game 1 I was in Rosenblatt seated alongside the RF side. Game 2 I was driving/riding back from Omaha as we made a commando raid on Omaha for precisely one game. It may s...
