i usually use medium. however, i don't mind long grain. the only time i WILL NOT use long grain is in rice dressing (dirty rice). i find it's too dry when i do.

not so much a dish persay.....but, i once went eat steaks at a buddy's house and he sliced his potatoes and placed them in a rice cooker with about 6oz of water. He added seasoning, butter, and chives, and pressed "cook". when it "dinged", they were perfect.
so, everytime i grill steaks for me ...
