They sell alarms on amazon like I described that start to wake you up gently for a half hour before an alarm actually goes off.

I've been in the Spring and really enjoyed it. It rained all but one day I was there, but its nothing like the thunderstorms we get here. Fun city with lots to do and easy to get around downtown on foot.
Only negative I saw was the really high level of homeless people wandering around downtown. ...

I've done this before in other countries. Basically just got a cab and had him drive me around to see the sites then got a local meal. Never had a problem, just make sure to get back to the airport with plenty of time to spare....

I've done Italy in January before and its not bad.
Tropical Islands are always an option, but they will be entering peak season, so cost could become an issue if you have a budget....
