[quote]8 on 12 new construction
A roof that steep is much less likely to leak.
Also if you sheath the roof with OSB then put down a vapor barrier and 1x4 "nailers" (at spacing recommended by type of roof panel) to provide an airspace b/w the roof and sheathing... it will likely neve...
| O-T Lounge|| re: Metal roof question - BoostAddict on 1/29/15 at 3:59 pm|
What is it being installed on... an existing roof with sheathing or just roof purlins? What is the roof slope? Shallow pitch roofs are way more likely to leak, especially when not properly installed. Standing seam roofs aren't attached by screws, so they're less likely to leak, but they're also more...

I've had one for a few years and you're right... It's a lot more crap that can break, but so far so good. It will work off of the heating element alone though (if the heat pump fails)....

You'll have mushy walls with the 1x4's, but I've seen plenty of buildings with 2x4's long side screwed to the girts (16" O.C). It works fine as a non-load bearing wall. One builder I work with, uses 1.5" steel hat channels.
