American Sour Beers
How far have you gotten through that book? I was moving along quickly at first but have stalled out some. Which is what I do for most of the books that I have. Use them more for reference than light reading. ...

re: Homebrewing: In-Process Thread (ADMIN: Sticky Requested!) - Fratastic423
I posted this on FB last night but for those not in my brew club's page. Here is my almost complete new system. I have to attach the control panel (after I change a switch out to make it function the way I want). The ...
let me follow up with a more general question. What are the reasons for going with an ale yeast for primary then adding bugs vs adding both at the same time?
It depends on how sour you want the final product to be. If you throw enough bugs in immediately, they will start to eat so...
Could I ferment with regular saison yeast for a couple weeks, then rack to a secondary onto peaches and add bugs?
Of course. A lot depends on how long you want the peaches to be in the carboy with the beer. I have heard (not seen) of some fresh fruit growing mold in the carboy, s...

True, but I have a version of that on tap now. I just had a conversation with my dad. Apparently I committed to making a Watermelon Kolsch for a party in a few weeks. Might just make a basic pale ale in lieu of trying to work with a Koslch yeast. ...

I am starting to plan for the brew day on Saturday. What should be the inaugural beer brewed on the new system? Taking into account that the brew day will probably be a disaster. The system is almost setup at the house. Once I get it finished this evening I will take some pictures. ...

I felt like I was robbing a dude today. Felt by for him, didn't seem like he wanted to sell his system at all but circumstances forced him. But whatever, I have a new brew system. It barely fits in the car but it fits, which is all that matters. Can't wait to brew next weekend ...

re: Tacoma owners are mighty proud. - Fratastic423
I swung by All Star yesterday on a whim to take a look at the Tacoma's on the lot. Only had 4 there which seemed odd. My friends who have them really enjoy them, so I figured it would be a good option since I do not feel I need or would get the use out of a full size truck. Going to swing bac...

Bumping this thread just to put a nail in its coffin. On FB this morning Andrew (Are we supposed to brag about being friends with him? Open one up and see if you can taste any off flavors. Maybe the closet got hot recently and kicked up more yeast. Or more likely, the bottles have soured and the bacteria/Brett are producing more co2 now ...

I could tell right away with the previous batch that something wasn't right. So you could just take it out of the barrel and cold crash it right then. The major thing is that you have to keep it full, or dose it with co2 all the time. ...

This morning I got antsy again with my barrel, and since there is little activity I decided to top off the barrel with the extra wort from the brew day that I had saved and fermented with some so5. The barrel is now basically full, hopefully that doesn't cause any issues. I need to just relax abou...

Went to the beach this weekend so no brewing. After a 7 hour trip home from Pensacola with a stop at Old Rail to ease the frustrations from traffic, I did some beer checking. The blonde ale that I didn't like the aroma of so I dry hopped last Thursday tastes really good. Glad I dry hopped it....

Completely agree with his argument. Hopefully we will see our players get the recognition and chances to play in Europe, because if we are going to rely on MLS we will continue to be the same old American team that wins on heart and effort rather than true talent. ...

Honestly, I didn't even think about it. I think it was due to him already being on the list, and me not having time to brew another beer.
