re: Should Baby Formula be banned in the United States? - Volumnia
Everyone knows breast milk is better. If you've had a baby, they tell you every 3 seconds. Everyone from the doctor to the packaging that comes with bottles. But, banning formula would be stupid. Mothers still die in childbirth and some can't produce enough milk. Why kill kids because only the secon...

I'd talk to her. There may be more going on than you know. Your step-dad is not unbiased. I'm older than you (33), but I wouldn't hate my Mom over it. I know now that my parents are just people and they make bad decisions just like everyone else. Being older and a Mom doesn't make her immune to bad ...

re: Hobby Lobby Denied Obamacare Waiver - Volumnia

re: OT Parents: do you feel the same as this parent? - Volumnia
It depends on the kid. For some kids, taking some control of the situation might empower them. For others, especially if they are likely to lose a fight, it may make them feel worse. No offense, but I'm pretty sure no one connented because the situation in your analogy is totally different than the birth control one. Hey, I don't work at a Catholic institution, nor am I currently on the pill (I'm nursing my baby and can't be). Eh. A few years ago purgatory was real. Now it's not. The faith changes constantly. I just find it hard to believe that people are sincerely up in arms about it. Actually, I do get the Catholic faith. I was confirmed and my entire family is Catholic even though I no longer am. I get the principle, i just think they are overatating the issue. That is what people do, and that's what they will continue to do if things don't change. The point isn't that we can't do that or that we want to change jobs. Realistically, it's a minor inconvenience in life. But, if the issue is being talked about - then, yes. It sucks to pay premiums AND pay out ...

Haha. I get it. But, it's the employee's money too (unless you pay 100% of premiums, which most employers don't) The costs of offering birth control coverage on a group plan isn't that much in the scheme of healthcare. I can understand the argument on principle, even if I disagree. My problem i...

I was prescribed the pill at 12 to help prevent ovarian cysts. I get them a lot and the pill helps. The point is that if my employer and I split the cost of something, my opinion should matter too. It's still not free. We pay premiums for our insurance coverage. Just because I don't pay when I go to the pharmacy doesn't mean I'm not paying for the pills. If you use that logic, my employer doesnt pay for prescriptions either. They don't get a bill when I fulfill my prescription....

Well, the pill is prescribed for lots of reasons besides just preventing pregnancy. So, yes, for a lot of people it is a medical need. I totally get both sides of this, though I agree with the president and believe all insurance plans should cover birth control.
