your license should have an issued date on it, which is when you would have initially gotten that type of license in that state.

But i went and bought a curado a few years ago, and i really enjoy it as well
IMO
spinning reels are better for lighter baits, when using corks, and in heavy winds
Baitcasters are great for throwing jigs and lures
Also, get what feels comfortable ...

The only days you may run into people are opening days of the splits or on big holidays, but there is plenty of space to spread out. If you are willing to paddle then you can always find an area to yourself....
