I feel pretty comfortable saying Foster doesn't run down the ball in right center the way Laird did and it results in a double or triple.

Yes, speed also. I think getting good jumps and taking good routes are more important than the other two though. Ofcourse that assumes the outfielder doesn't weigh 300 pounds and is reasonably athletic enough to play the position. ...

And early in the year is what I was talking about. McMullen only had 3 starts in the outfield early in the season prior to Stevenson getting regular PT...and Sciambra was getting most of the starts at that poin...

It could happen to anyone if they were going hard toward the wall and couldn't react to the bounce. He pulled up to play it off the wall, and still misplayed it because he anticipated one bounce, wasn't on his toes, and couldn't react when it didn't come straight back to him....

Off the top of my head he took a terrible angle in the Saturday South Carolina game and let a single/possible double turn into an easy triple. He also badly misplayed a ball off the wall against Florida....

I don't remember anything about McMullen in right other than the play where he lost it in the lights. He hasn't been out there very much has he? Definitely not in the last month, but I don't remember if he played more early in the season prior to the Missouri/Kentucky stretch....

I would have agreed 3 months ago without hesitation, but after seeing Foster get a chance I'm not sure you can make an argument he is a better outfielder than Rhymes. I would say its a push at best....

If he can pick up a hit here or there and move runners along when needed thats about the best we could hope for. He is a freshman and has been overmatched a lot, but he has been a little better recently than when he was first put in the lineup on a regular basis. ...

Mainieri obviously thinks the offensive advantages a Laird-Foster/McMullen outfield would give you do not outweigh the defensive advantages of a Stevenson-Laird outfield.
Maybe it would be different if several of the other spots couldn't produce like they have, or if our pitching was weaker forci...

I can only assume because playing McMullen in right would be the easiest way to fix the lineup. It would allow you to get Foster's bat in the lineup at DH without him costing anything on defense, and you would still have Laird or Stevenson to patrol center.
