Eh? It's an ongoing service that costs money to run.
That's like saying car manufacturers should give out free gas stipends.
I'd rather it be optional and not ramp up the phone price another 100...

I guess I don't understand the value of a mint provided denomination because they are so far off of the metal purchase price. I understand it won't ever be exact, but they can update it every so often within a certain expected variation (~25%).

I would argue this is either an outlier scenario or an example of a mismanaged fund.
I didn't mean to imply that a loss in a bond fund is impossible....another far more probable example of a loss incurring event IMO is someone defaulting on their debt.
I just said that that a drop in price c...
That's not unique to bonds. If you own equity that tumbles, then the potential upside increases also. That is no balm to massive mark to market losses.
I think you misunderstood what I said.

| Money Talk|| re: What's the point of bonds? - Volvagia on 1/25/15 at 8:44 am|
One twist with bonds though is that while the prices would tumble in your scenario, the yields of the bond would increase.
As long as you keep the bond to maturity reinvesting payouts, any losses would be compensated.
Now granted, it can raise hell on your overall returns but you will rema...

1) it is an actively traded mutual fund; as the manager reallocates/rebalances and basically sells on your behalf, these count as taxable events. This past year each share had $0.70 long term capital gains (which will probably be taxed at 15% in a taxable account) and $0.22 short term...
