Cool.....I can say I was there right when this SJW hate fad jumped the shark. What she said is pretentious as hell but where does the "SJW" moniker come in? Lots of belligerent bitching in the comments tho. My favorite is the one who blames the other guy for misreading a statement actin...

re: References on a resume or not? - Volvagia
FWIW, LSU's career services are adamant that you never put references on a resume. They will actually "fail" a resume automatically if they do. They'll allow a "references upon request" statement but only grudgingly. Ideally they say don't put anything about it on a general resume. Of course it ...

re: Would You Use A Doctor Who Graduated From A Med School in Caribbean? - Volvagia
You do realize that to practice medicine in the US they need to pass a pretty rigorous testing. And they probably did their residence in the US anyway. I'm not going to judge a doctor because his undergrad GPA was a little low. ...

re: US Navy gives up on fighter pilots and turns to drones; says the F-35 will be its last fig - Volvagia
Eh. I'd imagine pulling off high G moves are shaky enough that the plane can't wait for a half second for the information to be sent, however long for the pilot to decide how to react and move, and then another half second for the info to go back. ...

What, they are LEO? EDIT: From what I'm reading you are still looking at around a 0.25 second to a half second delay one way transmission. Great for real time video, spy drones, etc. Not so much for combat. ...

Wanna know how I know you have no experience with satellite communications? Btw, technically all OTA transmissions occur at light speed, regardless of them being directed to a satellite or not. ...

re: US Navy gives up on fighter pilots and turns to drones; says the F-35 will be its last fig - Volvagia
I got that, I even said that in later posts. The problem is that we are a very very long way from AI driven craft. Remote operators mean signal lag. Signal lag means death in combat situations. And once we attain AI driven craft, who knows if it is better than human ones. ...

re: US Navy gives up on fighter pilots and turns to drones; says the F-35 will be its last fig - Volvagia
But the big difference is that unless I'm mistaken, all those scenarios have a human pulling the trigger. Maybe that is the solution. The details of how it does things are done locally by AI, but general marching orders are done by remote operator. ...

re: US Navy gives up on fighter pilots and turns to drones; says the F-35 will be its last fig - Volvagia
I'm mostly curious how AI would handle CID/IFF foul ups. I have no idea how often they happen and the act of not raising hell is purely a judgement call. ...

That's kind what I was thinking after I finished. Hey, look on the bright side....they know how to do it. In theory. The next step is figuring out how to convert the entire mass of Jupiter to energy to make a single hop. ...

re: US Navy gives up on fighter pilots and turns to drones; says the F-35 will be its last fig - Volvagia
It took more than 5000 years to go from having a wheel to having the wheel self powered. From there it took us 130 years to learn how to fly. Then it took us 46 years to learn how to fly faster than the speed of sound. Then it took us 15 years to get into space. Then it took us 8 yea...

re: US Navy gives up on fighter pilots and turns to drones; says the F-35 will be its last fig - Volvagia
I am not sure they are talking AI yet. And you have to consider: an unmanned craft can fly harder than any manned one. A "dogfight" scenario where what you describe, the most important thing may be the fact that one side is able to out fly the other in spite of the other guy barely holding o...

re: US Navy gives up on fighter pilots and turns to drones; says the F-35 will be its last fig - Volvagia
The problem with the -35 is that it tries to do EVERYTHING. Jack of all trades and master of none. It is not really the final word in air dominance and superiority like you suggest. That title goes to the Raptor, which was built to be specifically an air superiority platform and when it ...
What's so bad about the F35? Multiple folks have mentioned it, but I'm not really sure what the problems were.
If you leave it, or the fuel truck supplying it, out in the sun it won't start. I'm not exaggerating. And it goes downhill from there. ...
