re: selling a boat re test drives? - stewie
Ask for a deposit
This, make them put a $1,000 or $2,000 deposit beforehand. Go with him on the test ride. I think it's common place to take it for a test ride these days. Taking it to the mechanic is becoming more common place but make use that mechanic has time to see the ...
The bigger fish are always released.

Keep a few next time but just because there is no limit doesn't mean fill your ice chest with them.
Amen to that. They are an oily fish that usually don't keep as well as others species in the freezer. Keep a few and gril...

re: Anyone fly fish for reds? - stewie
I love a 4wt. I have a St Croix 8'6" 4wt that I adore. Would be a great rod for that. However, I'm fishing bigger waters.
Ponds to bayous that shoot off of major rivers. Mostly panfish but if a carp came glubbing along, I'd certainly try my hand at him. ...

re: Anyone fly fish for reds? - stewie
I'll bring the 8 wt but I think it has a little too much muscle ... I guess I feel it's not as sporting as landing a good fish on a 5 wt or less. Right now, I'm looking at the Clearwater rod and possibly the Clearwater reel. 7'6 5 wt Any other suggestions?...

[link=(https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IRzQNFYSz2s)]Reds from a kayak[/link]
This thread is going to make me spend money
You can catch just as many reds with a $200 set up than you can with a $2000 set up. In all honesty, a decent quality set up shouldn't cost you more than $300...

re: Anyone fly fish for reds? - stewie
Are these not major concerns for fishing for reds (obviously freezing is not)? I know what a quality reel costs but IME was worth every penny.
The salt and sand can eat up the drag on a lower quality reel. I had that happen to me...sealed drag on any reel is almost a must IMHO. ...
Just wash the rod and reel down with a hose
When I'm showering after the trip, I'll bring the reel in with me and strip the line and some of the backing off and continue the shower. After, just reel it back up and take the spool off to let it dry before putting it up. Maybe I...
throw my 10 weight out there and just grunt them in.
Do that with a 5 wt...it would be much more fun. It's nice to have the backing when a big jack cruises by and slurps up your fly...then leaves you in the dust with the reel screaming. A likely scenario while fishing t...
The Ignitor is awesome. You will like it. Fast action rods like to slam flies down like hammer when casting in close. The short front taper makes presentation much more delicate without having to carry a lot of line.
Awesome, thanks for the heads up. I think I'm going to give it ...
switch over to the Orvis Ignition fly line. It's got a short front taper making it load quickly. Awesome line for quick shots inside of 50-60 feet.
Good to hear, I'm debating between the bonefish HD or ignition. Lots of good advice in this thread. Spend money on the rod. Orv...
LSULEFTY
I have an 18' Tidewater Baymax. It's a great little boat that will do everything you ask of it fairly well. I've fished it 27 miles off shore (on the right days) and caught snapper/cobia/grouper off of it and I've done a fair amount of marsh fishing with it. It handle...
