| Movie/TV Board|| Did this board ever discuss The Great Gatsby soundtrack? - Jimbeaux on 9/19/14 at 11:55 pm|
My search turned up empty, but it did come out a little while ago.
Maybe it's because I'm beyond a certain age, but I was just so distracted and disappointed by the soundtrack on many levels.
Gatsby is a quintessential "period novel". How/why would you mix and mash different eras in a period ...
| Movie/TV Board|| Dazed and Confused - descriptor - Jimbeaux on 8/9/14 at 9:38 pm|
Dazed and Confused is on VH1 right now. The cable company's one-sentence descriptor on the guide says this:
"Teens waste another day in 1976 Austin,TX".
Is that the best one-line descriptor they could come up with?...
| Food and Drink Board|| Going to Clancy's tonight - Jimbeaux on 7/3/14 at 5:54 pm|
We got reservations at the last moment for tonight which was a very pleasant surprise! It's been over 5 years since I've been to Clancy's, so I'm looking for suggestions on what to order.
Don't they have a soft shell crab dish that is popular?...
| Political Talk|| The age of white guilt: and the disappearance of the black individual - Jimbeaux on 6/24/14 at 8:56 am|
Though published in Harper's Magazine in 1999, and I'm sure it's been posted hereabouts over the years, this essay by Shelby Steele remains as one of the most insightful and thought provoking articles on the topic of "race relations in the U.S." ever written.
I stumbled across it again recently a...
| Political Talk|| Trust in Government - Does it still exist? Is it important? - Jimbeaux on 3/27/14 at 9:33 am|
I'm sure Liberals will balk at the source (National Review) and the author (Victor David Hanson) of this editorial, but I believe this is a VERY important topic that doesn't get discussed enough.
This should be a key plank in the Republican platform.
| Movie/TV Board|| M.A.S.H. - Jimbeaux on 3/20/14 at 10:51 am|
I watched M.A.S.H. (the movie) on cable the other night. I hadn't seen it in 20 years. I still find it hilarious, but I suspect that it doesn't have the same impact on modern audiences.
What do people 35 and younger think about this movie? Are you familiar with the t.v. series and did you watc...
| O-T Lounge|| New Orleans peeps, help me with neighborhood boundaries - Jimbeaux on 2/11/14 at 1:01 pm|
What are the boundaries of Treme?
How about Gentilly? "7th Ward"?
How far does Metairie go? Does it include "Old Jefferson" to the river? Central Ave? Shrewsbury?
Where does Elmwood start and stop? Relative to Metairie, Jefferson, Harahan?
How about Lake View? Lake Vista?

Thomas Sowell can meander around a topic a bit, but he's usually good for one or two succinct lines that hit the nail on the head.

| Movie/TV Board|| Captain Phillips gave me motion sickness - Jimbeaux on 10/14/13 at 2:32 pm|
Literally. Luckily I made it to the restroom.
Needless to say, I'm not a fan of the jerky style camera action. What do you call that style? I don't like it.
The plot of the movie and the acting was quite good up until the time I had to leave to go puke.
Anybody else have this problem?...

What a hot mess. Judd Apatow may have had something semi-interesting to say in his earlier works, but he's run out of whatever can be construed as good. If I wasn't so bored to death, that movie would have made me slit my wrists....

Had a movie fest with my kids this weekend. We watched 3 Hitchcock films - Rebecca, Strangers on a Train, and Notorious.
