I remember I was a bit surprised to learn how big the German immigration to America was.
The Irish immigration, like later ones (Italian, Jewish, Puerto Rican) got the publicity b/c it was so huge in NYC. But the Germans had the national numbers.

The phrase "single mother" used to annoy me as the usage was intentionally ambiguous, meant to blur the line between "divorced" mother and "never married" mother
But now that nobody gives a shite about unmarried mothers - - 80% of all black mothers are unmarried -- it's just another example of arc...
