Is this the thread where the older generation complains about how much they worked as a kid?
Ocean, I read something about 20 years ago that upper class parents were actually discouraging their teens from working. They wanted them to focus on school work and extra - curricular activities that would look good on college applications.
I was born poor and wanted to work. Brother did the same thing in his HS years and his part time work was harder... oil fields.
But I have a family experiment. My daughter NEVER worked until after college. My son worked from age 16. Today they are both in their 30s with spouse and children.
My daughter spends money like it grows on trees. Luckily, she is married to a guy who works hard and makes a good salary.
My son is frugal with money and works overtime every chance he gets. He is doing very well.
