Late Thursday night, Young America’s Foundation put UC-Berkeley on notice that their attempts to deny the First Amendment rights of students will not be tolerated any longer.

In a letter to Berkeley’s Vice Chancellor Stephen Sutton, counsel representing Young America’s Foundation and the Berkeley College Republicans issued one final warning: Respect students’ rights by ensuring that Ann Coulter is allowed to speak on campus April 27 or relief will be sought in federal court, including claims for injunctive relief and damages.

Berkeley has until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21 to confirm their cooperation with Coulter’s planned speech organized by Young America’s Foundation and hosted by the Berkeley College Republicans.

This story is developing.

Like I said yesterday, Berkeley is the Anal Orifice of America.

Then the 9th Circus will rule in favor and the Supreme Court will overturn both.

Isn't Berkeley just a music school? Shut it down. Real musicians don't go to school. Kid rock and Ted nugent didn't go to college

Why would any Republican pick Berkeley as a college to attend?

yeah, berkley is under no obligation to give coulter a forum to speak.

If they are under that obligation, Iw ould like to give a speech at berkley. If they don't give me a forum, I will sue them!

My cousin went to Berkeley to study nuclear engineering and he's probably slightly right of center. He services reactors on our top of the line submarines in the navy.

They voluntarily took on that obligation then rejected it for dubious and seemingly politically partisan reasons. If they hadn't initially agreed to let her speak she wouldn't have much of an argument.

Also, what campus groups are clamoring for you to speak?

I'm struggling with this from a purely legal perspective.

Devil's advocate: If UC-Berkeley hypothetically doesn't want Coulter to speak not because they don't want to give her a forum for political reasons but because they have a reasonable expectation that third parties will bring violence and property damage to the campus, they should be able to cancel the event. This shouldn't be forced onto them.

I think it is deplorable that the young fascists are employing these tactics, but I don't believe UC-B should be forced into this situation.

Additionally, the more publicized and contentious this becomes, the worse the situation is going to be.

Prior restraint? You're about 80 years too late.
