That's admirable, but why do you feel the duty you feel should be forced on me?
The US has historically been a key player in its involvement overseas in both warfare and providing humanitarian aid, including the resettlement of a very small percentage of refugees - from Jews to Christians to Muslims.
57% of discretionary spending goes to the military. 1% goes to humanitarian aid. There are far bigger fish in spending to get upset about than aid. Additionally, the coordination and provision of aid cannot be done without government cooperation and support. They must play a role. I will agree, however, that organizations like the UNHCR are so bureaucratic that money can be spent inefficiently.

Just to be clear, I'm not against the resettlement of just Muslims. I'm against the resettlement of ANY refugees here in the US.

And that 1% humanitarian aid can be spent here in the US (although full disclosure, I'd rather cut it completely).
Sure, the State Department can help coordinate NGO and private charity initiatives. That's why they're there.

This country would look a lot different and a lot more people would have suffered if US policy historically shared this belief with you.
Out of curiosity, what is your reasoning? Is it security related or primarily fiscal responsibility towards programs exclusive to benefiting Americans? Also, what's your view on military spending and our involvement in conflicts overseas?

I understand your point of view. I want govt to be held accountable for efficient use of my tax dollars as well. I'm far from a spend spend spend lefty and generally think the govt is at its best when it gets out if the way and uses empirical data to fund and incentivize highly effective private organizations to solve our problems, including international humanitarian issues.
Humanitarian aid is a sticky issue and there are many critiques of the harms and benefits caused by govt entities, NGOs, and corporations. The support system right now isn't optimal. I don't know what is, but I do believe the US should continue playing a vital role rather than turning a blind eye to serious humanitarian issues. That's the bleeding heart side of me, however, and I know that's not popular around here.

Primarily fiscal, but also along the lines of the government exists to benefit US citizens, not citizens of other nations.
As for military spending, we can't have a serious discussion on that until we fix our seriously broken acquisition process. We fix that, along with a few other things, and we can reduce our military budget quite a bit. And as someone who's spent his fair share wearing the uniform in third world shitholes, I'm less than pleased that the US military is the government's lazy solution to everything these days.

One of the best was when this woman was raped and the judge said it was a misunderstanding. He said the migrant probably just thought it was crazy european sex. No punishment given.
