Until we audit the pentagon we shouldn't increase DoD spending.

agree 100% just type Wasted Military spending in google and then come back and tell me we need to increase funding.

Of course I'm sure I'm opening myself up to have FAKE NEWS fired back at me for every report out there on the internet about this.

When I was deployed we had DoD contractors responsible for dumpster diving through our trash to make sure it was "properly" sorted. There were 5 or so of these guys with us in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the locals dump all their trash into a massive heap right outside the base.

We were probably paying those contractors 100k each + providing them with living expenses and security.

Multiply this x1000 and you get a lot of waste.

and that is just a drop in the bucket compared to debacles like the f-35 development

here is a fun link of trump admitting it's out of control.

I thought Trump ran a business

A business that's always over-leveraged and constantly going into bankruptcy to avoid paying its contractors.

Not sure why some morons here think he's a 'good' businessman.

Currently the Tomahawk and hell fire missiles have ended production and who knows when a suitable replacement will happen meanwhile we spending money on areas that don't matter.

You mean like building surplus M-1A1/2s and stockpiling them despite the Army asking for production to stop what a half decade ago?

You people sound like the world is ending.

There is plenty of money in the defense budget for a top notch military and plenty of money to maintain our arsenal of nuclear bombs

Instead of spending hundreds of billions every year in the Middle East let's simply spend it our defense.

Why does every single bureaucrat always want to take the easier path of getting more from taxpayers than the more virtuous path of managing their part of government???

Because it's easier to get rich that way if I was to guess.

Our Army and Air Force should be primarily National Guard/Reserve functions. The active component should be focused largely on the Navy.

While I agree in terms of power projection, at some point aren't we tempting fate that a terrorist group gets state-level anti-ship missiles and sinks a carrier?

Let's not pretend Democrats don't love military spending as much as republicans. Plenty of these planes and ships and tanks get made in Democrat states and districts.

There's a reason major projects like the F-35 are sourced to contractors in like 30 states.

We are ok with thinning up our Military while China and Russia bulk up theirs?

Thus far most of Russia's "build-up" seems to be hype for internal consumption. This is where the sanctions have actually hit them a bit- they can't spend what they'd like to at the moment.

There is no country foolish enough to actually attack military asset of the USA. Terrorist maybe buy if there are fewer targets there are less chances that happens.

Also military retirement and entitlements need to be on the table.
That's already happened. The old pension system is giving way to individual accounts for new servicemembers (those joining after 1 January 2018). Those of us who came in between 1 Jan of 2006 and 31 December 2017 will have the option to stay with the old system or opt into the new. Everyone who came in before 2006 will simply remain with the old.

I dropped my letter, though it hasn't been accepted (everything has been extra slow since the tradition) but just received an e-mail a couple of weeks ago that I can still opt-in. I've been trying to figure out exactly what that might be worth as of the date of my resignation early next year, but no one seems to know.

This for active component. Don't know that the reserve system has been affected much.

I think we should give military personnel who serve their term a certain degree of health care for life and get rid of the VA hospitals.

If a veteran is wounded he should all his health care paid for anywhere in the USA he wishes to receive it for life.

All America does is lose wars these days... got its arse kicked in Afghanistan, Iraq, and now its miserable failed attempt at overthrowing Assad.... indeed... why spend more on a failed product?

America is at a point where its friends do not respect it and its enemies dont fear it

It's one of the few things the federal government should spend money on.
