Israel is a major thing, and I never said it was the only thing, I only take exception to your assertion that it's not a contributor at all. Whenever you claim that you lose all credibility on this issue. Osama bin Laden listed as his grievances:
1) Support for Israel
2) Presence of American troops in Saudi Arabia
3) Sanctions against Iraq
We no longer have troops in Saudi Arabia and we didn't have troops there before 1991. We no longer have sanctions on Iraq and we didn't have sanction on Iraq before 1991. However, the one constant over the last 65 years has been our support for Israel, which since 1967 has been blind and uncritical.
I once saw an Arab, Ivy League educated, westernized journalist on a political talk show say that Osama bin Laden champions the Palestinian cause because he knows it's the one issue that resonates even with secular Arabs like him who despise bin Laden and everything else he stands for. It resonates with Arabs like John Sununu who in 1988 angered AIPAC when he was the only governor of a U.S. state not to call for repeal of the UN General Assembly Resolution 3379 which defined Zionism as racism. It resonates with Arabs like Darrell Issa who was the only U.S. Congressman to visit Lebanon during the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah War, has called Israel an apartheid state and who was once the victim of an assassination attempt by the Jewish Defense League. And it resonates with Arabs like George Mitchell who quit his job as Obama's envoy to the Mideast when he realized that Obama would never let him put pressure on Israel. None of Al Qaeda's other objectives have any broad resonance whioh explains why their candidates do so poorly whenever they run in elections. The vast majority of Arabs/Muslims have no interest in living under 7th century Islam.
Its political red herring. If israel didn't exist we still would have propped up unpopular dictators in almost every Middle eastern country, we would still have troops in Saudi Arabia (where Osama was from). We still would have had sanctions against Iraq. The fact that AQ has been fighintg us on two fronts for 10+ years and holding its own. YOu don't think it could have won Palestinian independence if they moved into Israel?
Do you think i care what New Hampshire and a representative from Orange country have to say? What exactly made them authorities on foreign affairs? And also wouldn't Issa be just as bias as me?
You know how you can tell the other arab countries don't give a frick about Palestine YOu know what they call refuges 50 years later everywhere else? citizens. They absolutely do not wan the palestinians in syria, in lebanon or in jordan.
And you're a Likud-sympathizing, Israel-firster trying to justify and rationalize America's support for an apartheid state.
You are a Terrorist sympathizer. You are spending your time legitimizing what terrorist think, and arguing your best to give it to them.
NVM that it might be in our best national interest not to have terrorist get a hold of Israel's nukes, or not have israel us them in self preservation. NVM that it is easy to judge Israel action because we haven't had a domestic threat of war since the 1960's. You expect Israel to act in good faith in exchange for no guarantees of good faith in return, and with a people with a history of bad faith. How do you sell that to your people?
