Why is military spending ignored when its clearly the largest piece?

I believe repaying the debt starts with cutting non-essential functions. Arts? Sure cut it, but 1B is nothing.
Do we really need all the equipment? Do we really need all the personnel? I read that even if we cut military spending by HALF, we are still the largest spenders?
There you go folks, you want lower taxes? You want to pay debts? Cut the military.

I'd rather start by understanding why the costs are so bloated and work to fix that.
If anything we need more people in the military and we need to spend our money more wisely.

I agree. However, you're not even remotely touching the debt by just cutting the military, considering it's only 15% of the actual budget.

15% is a ton. Given compounding year after year, I think it will be extremely significant.

Trump said he could make the military great again and still spend less while doing it. I hope he and Mattis follow through with that but I have my doubts.

Military is forced welfare. Most people who had alternative options choose not to go into military. Its the government's way to subsidize the less fortunate without calling it welfare but we know the truth.

Either our Military successfully defends us against the biggest threat imaginable (NK/Islamist EMPs delivered from junk ships off our coasts)...or ALL is lost.
