Why is Mexico a failed country?

Why isn't this discussed more? The country is of similar age to the United States. Is geographically diverse. Has natural resources. What is holding them back?
The truth is that if Mexico was not a failed country, we would not be having this talk of a wall. We don't discuss a wall with Canada, because it is not a failed state.
Why doesn't the president of Mexico take responsibility for leading a failed country and let us know what he is going to do to solve it?
Their economy is based on shipping their citizens to the US and having them work and send money back home. That's a crappy business model.

Because Mexico D.F. is even more corrupt than Washington D.C. if you can believe it.

Corruption. Overreliance on tourism, agriculture and raw resource exports. Fighting to maintain a 2-class system well past the time to build a robust middle class.
Related to corruption - allowing lawlessness to become an accepted way of life (in a way, similar to what goes on in many urban, Democrat strongholds in the U.S.).

corruption stemming from a belief that the govt has all the answers and will take care of them

It's called demographics, and never on world history has it been overcome

like most south american countries, they never really developed western property rights and there are very few landowners
people talk about the US having a tiered society but places like Mexico have a LEGITIMATE tiered society

The United States took actions decades ago to reel in corruption. What is Mexico waiting for?
This would be my response to Mexico: Tell me what you are going to do to become a first-world country. Make us not need a wall. Otherwise, shut the frick up.

It's a corrupt cesspool, which makes it hilarious that many Mexican-Americans voted for Clinton. Clinton embodies why their parents/grandparents left Mexico the first place.

It's corruption. Plain and simple.

Yeah it's like if inner Chicago was an entire country

Well do we want to go back to Quetzalcoatl and Cortes?
Mexican-American War?
Pancho Villa and the failed deal with the German Empire?

run by Mexicans is why

Those all sound like lame excuses. Crime and corruption are solvable. Perhaps they need some tough love from Uncle Sam.
Is it really the demographics? If Mexico is irredeemable, then the wall just needs to be taller.

A lot of the "solvers" have connections or are scared of the cartels and gangs
Gonna take ages to drain that swamp

Go back as far as you want. The reality is that Mexico wants the U.S. to make (or not make) certain policies and actions because they are a failed state that can't take care of their own responsibilities.
This should have happened a long time ago, but the United States should put Mexico on some sort of time-table to get their shite together.
If you want to be part of NAFTA or any other agreement, reign in your corruption and drug cartels, or you can become somalia.

The average IQ in Mexico is sub-90

There are a LOT of factors involved when a country like Mexico performs so poorly. This thread could go on for days.
