Because it's the population. No matter how many you kill or force to play nice the second you leave they revert back to who they naturally are. Anti West fanatics
Imagine they had the tech and beat us into submission, then just left. We still hate them and go back to living how we always have no matter what cuck they pay to "rule" us.
We haven't been compatible in large numbers for over a thousand years
The only possible thing I can think of is to improve their lives economically and make them a trade partner, but I think they'll still harbor ill will deep down. It'll end up like Pakistan or Iran.

Where I was.... The Pakistani border was within 25 miles. The enemy would drive across to fight during the day and drive home at night. we weren't allowed to kill anyone not actively engaging us or actively planting an IED even if we knew they were enemy. THAT WILL CHANGE.
Doubtful.

I saw an interview on BBC this morning regarding this. Guy said the General in Afghanistan has been requesting more troops since January. Mattis has declined until a plan was agreed upon by all. The guy then said the troops were most frustrated with the terrorist crossing into Pakistan at night and nothing the troops can do about.

ecause the people who live there all follow a backwards, hateful religion straight out of 600 AD.
They find refuge in Paris or Copenhagen then immediately commence to raping children and shitting in the streets.

Besides the terrain, why haven't we sealed the deal?
There's no profit in "sealing the deal" - there's only profit in perpetual conflict.
Just like no profit in curing disease but massive profit in managing disease.
Our troops are used to manage a disease and sacrificed for corporate contract profit. Maintain profit, maintain control...but not overwhelm to have ownership status...just keep a steady need of troops and weapons bought. It's gross.

Pashtun tribe is in paki and afghan.
All taliban are pashtun. Some pashtun are not taliban.
To the west, tribes grow and deal opium poppies. There is no industry.
Its a colder yemen. And at higher elevation.
Tribes run regions.
Central govt is a rumor.

Many reasons.
1. It's basically a region dominated by tribal infighting for centuries. You have 41 ethnic groups and sects in that country. By contrast, there are 3 primary groups in Iraq and maybe 2 others (Yasidis and Coptic Christians).
2. Literacy rate is at 25% or below.
3. The only way to truly govern that country is to have a strong brutal corrupt leader in each province and have them work together collectively.
4. The country is completely land-locked.
5. The country's primary export is opium.
There are many other reasons, but those were the ones I could come up with off the top of my head.

Ultimately it's a culture problem, not a military problem.
And an ideology problem too. We'd be better off dropping 5,000 Catholic Spanish conquistadors and 1 million Bibles in Afghanistan and letting them have at it. They certainly have the experience.
