I honestly don't know when the worm turned w/regards to the Left & the First Amendment, or why. If nothing else, I thought the Left used to take pride in promoting themselves as the champions of free speech.

Is it because they know they can't competently defend most of their ridiculous ideology?

They learned the power of shutting down debate when you don't let your opponent argue.

Progressives find free speech uncomfortable. People expressing ideas that they do not support forces them to question their beliefs.

That cannot happen.

Possible, but is more likely because they simply don't want to. It is easier to shut down an opponent than it is to debate them.

my experience is that most people love their own free speech, not so much for other people.

I love free speech. I'll listen to anyone talk at any time.

Hell, you can't learn anything if you don't listen to other viewpoints, something sorely lost on the millennial progressive left.

Their parents, higher education, Hollywood are to blame IMO, they were never told "no" and everyone is the same. Now they have a cop out when they are challenged.

Funny, but I don't see conservatives rioting in order to shut down free speech. You know, like your side has done at Cal-Berkeley a few times now. Or, the Trump rally in San Jose last year, or the Trump rally in Chicago that had to be cancelled.

Let's face facts, 95. 90% of goons & thugs reside on your side of the political fence. FACT.

oh me too. But I don't think not wanting to hear other viewpoints is limited to millennials or the left.

Maybe it is the lack of shining a light on it, but it appears that stifling free speech sure is.

When you can't win on substance, you win by silencing the opposition. By labeling them as various "ists", it is intended to make their opinions not worth listening to. If you have a label that makes people ignore your opinions, are you really still having an argument? People who don't want a label learn to keep their heads down and shut up, because labels can have real consequences.

The left loves free speech, they just didn't like the old definition that allows it to apply to everyone.

if you are a champion of free speech, then you must realize there is nothing I can do to interfere with your right to free speech. The gov't cannot interfere with your right to free speech, but individual/corporations/other organizations are not required to give you a venue for that speech. Nor are you immune to the actions of that speech.

So you're saying opinions are like assholes. The only one you want to hear is your own.

There's a slight difference between not wanting to hear something, as opposed to burning property & beating up people in order to shut something down.

Why are you so reluctant to acknowledge the obvious? It only serves to make you look stupid.
