Why do people think an attack on the DPRK will be easy and short?

North Korea is not a pushover state like Syria or Iraq. They have, if I'm not mistaken, the fourth-largest standing military in the world. The North Korean people have been raised since the 50's to believe the US was the aggressor in the Korean War and is waiting for the chance to finish the job, so they will not (initially at least) see us as liberators. They also have very limited or no access to the outside world, so they don't understand how far they lag behind the rest of the world in terms of standard of living. If we attack, they will fight. They have been doing basically nothing but preparing for just this moment for going on seven decades now, and we will be crossing the largest ocean in the world to fight them on their own turf. In short, this will not be a "police action." This will be a real, honest-to-god war.
I'm not saying we shouldn't take action, because the DPRK is clearly a rogue state that routinely threatens us and our allies. Nor am I saying we can't, or won't, win a war with them. But it will not be easy, and it will not be quick. I don't believe there is a limited option. If we take any offensive action whatsoever, we had better be prepared to go the full monty, because they don't seem the type to meekly take it and submit.
A war with North Korea has the potential to be our costliest conflict since the last time we fought them. If we are really going to do this, then we had better be ready for that.

Because there won't be a ground war. No point in it.

If they can cut off the head of the snake, I think it won't be a prolonged affair. The thing that's different than the Middle East is that all of the people of Korea want unification.
Cutting off the head... that's the catch.

Also nobody is saying it will be any such thing.

Carpet bomb Pyongyang with Snickers bars FTW. So easy.

If you can't find a way to stay on the Trump MAGA Train, I can't help you, son.
The time for North Korea to show some respect has come.

Why would there not be a ground war? I think if the DPRK feels threatened enough, or is attacked in any way by the US, that's exactly what they will try.

It would be over in a day if we wanted to be ruthless about it.

2 words: food offering. Just drop a couple of buckets of KFC and Popeye's , tell them there's more where that came from if they surrender. War over. Kim removed. Peace for mankind.
Your welcome, World.

Because....CHINA
Being neighbors and such, I'm sure the people and military norks have great appreciation for the strength of the Chinese military.
Who, until a couple days ago, were in defense of the norks.

This is a stupid and useless response. If you're just trying to be snarky, then fine, but if this is your real, actual thought on the matter, then you should be made to go to the mother of every soldier killed in the war, should it take place, and explain to her that it was necessary for her son (or, it pains me to say, daughter) to be killed because "it was time for North Korea to show some respect."

NK is pinned in with the US and SK troops to the south and 150k Chinese to the north and a U.S. naval fleet off the coast. NK=fricked.

China is the wildcard. If they were to also very militarily involved, then yes, it would be over quickly. I don't see that happening. I think at best they agree to simply stand by while we take whatever action we feel is necessary.

They'd be slaughtered. We'd have almost instant air superiority, and their anti-aircraft systems are a joke. Might suck for South Korea during the initial push, but that wouldn't last long. It would be a damn Air Force and Navy turkey shoot that would make the Highway of Death in Kuwait during the first Gulf War look tame in comparison.

Would love to see the Psi-Ops menu. On the one hand you have a brainwashed constituency. On the other, they are probably hungry and have no idea about the technology available on the outside.
