why cant we take over mexico?

It would make our new southern border much smaller and easier to control. They've got oil. We'd have more great beaches. The cartels would be a bitch, but nothing a little droning cant handle. I mean, hell, we support them anyway, might as well get a little tax money back.

I love threads like this.
No, those Hispanics would vote democrat and extend union power. Their infrastructure as relating to power grids, roads, zoning and city landscape is not up to our standards as well. We would have to pay more taxes to maintain this new state and it would be a country killing drain. And this is not taking into account the insurgency there that would frick our military up.

We already provoked a war with Mexico in 1846 in order to "take" much of their land which we did in 1848.

I'd rather have none of them become a part of our electorate. I'd condone the US grabbing land only under the condition that the indigenous were forced out. Either be willing to do what is hard or shut the hell up about trying to add territory for your own national interests just to ruin your national interests by flooding your population with foreigners.
That being said the OP is ridiculous as the US has plenty of natural resources and needn't revert to imperialism in Mexico of all places.
