When I talk about immigration with my liberal or leftist friends, there's a sense that some (or most) of the people on the right who are very fired up about immigration are so essentially because they don't want the country or their community to become less white. Sometimes "racist" is used, sometimes it's not.

Personally, I don't really agree with that characterization. Although certainly a portion absolutely are racist, I think the left underplays other factors. What I'm asking for you is why, in your own words, your position on immigration is where it is. I'm not here to judge you, and there's no "gotcha" coming. I'm just curious and it occurred to me i don't think I've ever flat out asked.

The United States is a conservative country when compared to most other nations around the world. Our Capitalist economy is the greatest the world has ever seen and is the best argument against the socialist models used throughout Europe and Asia. The majority of immigrants support those socialist models and would vote to change America for the worse.

I believe in following the law, if you don't like a law, change it, but as long as it IS the law... obey it. If it were up to each individual to pick and choose which laws they were going to follow then we would have a lawless nation.

It's economically unsustainable to have a welfare state and de facto open southern borders.

Just the cost of educating the children of illegals is into the billions for individual states. That's not sustainable long-term.

Before I answer, I'm going to need you to be intellectually honest enough to separate the terms "immigration" and "illegal immigration".

Thanks

There are laws on the books covering how to immigrate to this country.

These laws aren't comparable to laws from the 1800s that are accidentally still on the books that no one should enforce.

The reason we have "tough situations" now like "Dreamers" is entirely self-inflicted. It shouldn't preclude getting our shite together.

Liberals are racist against white people - confirmed.

Because I have worked with many Latino immigrants (legal) and believe they deserve way more credit than the ones who skipped the line and jumped the border.

Speaking Spanish and working with them everyday wearing a blue collar leaves a big mark on how you feel about immigration.

I grew up on a farm with a real deal Mexican man who did the majority of manual labor and up keep.

He was legit with a green card. He worked here for 7 years before they got all the paperwork straight to get his wife here.

Some 25 years later now, that man runs a successful butcher shop and has a daughter about to graduate high school that is fully integrated and Americanized.

Those folks did it the right way and paid a big price being apart just to take the chance. They succeeded.

Why should some illegal be able to jump the border these days and receive benefits that were not available to the man I know?

That's where I'm at on the subject.

I recognize that genetic and cultural differences are important. The Left wants to immigrate low-IQ populations that will rely on the welfare state and reliably support the Left's quest for power.

This is true, at least for me, but that isn't by any means the sole reason. Immigrants, and especially illegal ones, use a disproportionate amount of government benefits, tend to commit more crime, and act as a depressing factor against wages.

In NWA there has been a uptick in crimes, gangs, and drug use. The explosion of services paid to illegal immigrants has also made costs go up medically. There is a growing panhandling and stagnant wages in this area, but costs are going up.

Either do it legally or face consequences and understand that anchor babies are not the appropriate way to do so.

Around 40% came here legally. They have overstayed their visa's.

Many people think all the illegal immigrants came from the Mexican border.

Illegal Immigration is important except people from the far left (Pelosi).

We should help workers get more work visa's so the can pay taxes and into the SSN. They will pay into these and will not get the rewards of SSN.

I see two roads diverging in a yellow wood. We can either be a welfare state with closed borders, or a non-welfare state with open borders. Either we can be a nation where no one is denied medical care at the ER, where everyone is entitled to a minimum wage, where all children can attend public schools free of charge, where dangerous substances and products are heavily regulated or banned from the marketplace, where poor people can get assistance paying for housing, food, childcare, cell phones, and internet access, or we aren't. The alternative is a free state, one like the founders intended, where none of those programs exist at the federal level, and the ones that work and are popular exist in some form or another at the state level.

In this world, the price of labor is what businesses are willing to pay and what laborers are willing to accept. There is no, or a very limited, government funded safety net. Private charity fills that void. People work to live or they don't live. There's no income tax either, only taxes on consumption. There is no War on Drugs, though drugs are still regulated for purity (i.e. the label has to accurately describe the product and its effects). If it is competitive for immigrants to come here, they will. If it is not, they will leave. Their being here, due to their spending, will contribute taxes like anyone else. But this does mean some will fall through the cracks, some will be hungry, homeless, and/or die in want of medical care.

If we're going to be the former, we have to enforce our immigration laws and our minimum wage laws aggerssively. We have to hunt for and root out people using fake social security cards to vote and get government benefits. We have to crack down on illegal immigrants voting. We may even need to charge parents of illegals tuition to send non-citizen children to public schools or deny them free care at emergency rooms just to keep those systems from collapsing. Allowing in so many illegal immigrants and offering so many free benefits is stressing the system (which is already overly burdened) to the point of collapse. We must protect our welfare system if we want it to persist.
