Who are Russia's "Useful Idiots" Now?

If anyone in the world knows how to play the deception game, it is former KGB head, Vladimir Putin.
We know how the Soviets groomed "Useful Idiots" back in the day. Why would they have changed their approach. Who are the Useful Idiots for Russia now? Those who are blaming them for everything or those who apologize for them?
Can't quite make out what Putin is doing here or who he is playing - or why.
Thoughts?

Of course that is why she lost. I have no idea how Russia could convince people not to vote for Hillary. She was awful.

I tend to think their focus is more on having local useful idiots rather than expending useless time and energy to disrupt the internal governance of another nation - that's our job, damn it!
We still have useful idiots (who don't know they are, which is even better/worse) from the results of decades of KGB operations and subversion, but they are actually the ones decrying Russian involvement. The irony is palpable and slightly delicious.
