I can't recall seeing any over the past 8 years prior to now. Anyone care to speculate as to why they were so quiet then, but seemingly so vocal now apparently?

I guess maybe the theory is, now they feel more emboldened, but you'd think the past admin would have spawned at least a few big demonstrations of such.

Seems odd.

Maybe they think Trump is on their side so they are now emboldened. Who knows.

The anti-Confederate rhetoric just started heating up in the last year or so. Makes sense that they are now showing up.

Odd that our first black president didn't feel the need to address such an important issue of racial divisiveness early on in his administration.

They've been there all along, but there was no politically expedient reason to exploit them.

Now there is.

It is impossible to discuss hypocrisy without juxtaposing past statements (and their reaction) and current statements (and their reaction).

Obama was, until very recently the president.

Are you attempting to cut off all criticisms of Obama by pulling your whatboutism bullshite?

he did push on Confederate symbols during his presidency. He banned confederate flags at national cemetaries, and jawboned it a bit.

But he didn't tackle it early, maybe there were bigger problems for him to solve?

THIS

There are certain "issues" in America that are only "issues" when the left needs them to be.

Think Homelessness under Reagan/Bush that miraculously and overnight, disappeared as an issue under Clinton.

The same goes for "hunger in America". I've already seen that bogus stat floated out again recently.

Apparently, Republican Presidents instantaneously starve people.

Seems one of the dumbest lines of recent discourse on here (not directed to you).

It was a simple question I had as to what is precipitating this stuff NOW all of a sudden, and I could have just as easily left Obama out of the OP - although part of him seems a bit central to the idea of wondering why racist NAZIs are seemingly just now starting to organize. I didn't realize it was such a stupid triggering mechanism with some.

I mean I'm not sure how you quite avoid discussing a prior administration (headed by an opposing party) when discussing aspects of a current administration and what is going on differently now compared to then.

They were around, it's just that nobody cared about them because Obama was POTUS and no one was worried that they could or would have any power. They were the fringe groups that we all mostly ignored.

Now...people fear they have a voice and power.

You can laugh at that all you want, but that is the reason why they are now getting a spotlight.

Nah, I think you are likely onto something regarding perception and how it is steered these days.
