in the first precedent for such a thing . . . who else will take a chance to "go high"?

quote:

Democratic Sen. Cory Booker is set to testify against Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions Wednesday in an unprecedented move during his attorney general confirmation. This would be the first time in Senate history that a sitting senator will testify against another sitting senator for a Cabinet post during a confirmation. "I do not take lightly the decision to testify against a Senate colleague," Booker said. "But the immense powers of the attorney general combined with the deeply troubling views of this nominee is a call to conscience." Booker told CNN on Tuesday morning shortly before Sessions' hearing started that it was "consequential moment." "This is one of the more consequential appointments in American history right now given the state of a lot of our challenges we have with our policing, a lot of challenges we have with race relations, gay and lesbian relations," Booker said.

Not only is this unprecedented, but it is cheap. Booker is trying to position himself for a run in 2020 or 2024. He has an opportunity to do this on the Senate floor when confirming.

What a C***S****R.

It seems to me that he takes a pretty big risk by doing this. As a witness, he will be under oath.

I'm sure that the Republicans could access some opposition research on him, given his prominence as a potential future Democratic nominee. They can use this forum to force embarrassing details to be answered that may damage his chances for higher office.
