When did everyone develop such a distrust for the government as whole?

I'm only 26 so in my life time Clinton getting a BJ was the biggest scandal in my life.
I know Edwin Edwards stole money from the LA government, and he served his time bc of it.
I know Nixon was convicted bc of wiretapping in Watergate which was a big scandal.
I feel like ever where I turn , somebody is criticizing the government and politiians as a whole characterizing then as crooked and currupt. Honestly it pisses me off that everyone's a fricking conspiracy theorist now who thinks the government is overall currupt and dishonest, when I know that there are honest policians who actually want to make lives better for their constituents who don't exist only for the sake of taking bribes. I understand people don't like being told what do, but anyone can run for office and somebody has to hold office bc that's the way our government is set up. Many politicians have a scandal free past, are well respected by their church communities and have succeed at some the top institutions in our country.
I'd just like to understand why people have such a distrust for government when overall , most government workers and politicians are honest people who generally just want to make the life better for the cities, states, and country, are at less just doing their jobs. It's like everyone forgot how to have a little bit of patriotism.

Do you understand how lobbying and special interests work? Ever looked at the amount of money the government spends on useless studies, like spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to study the effect certain massages have on rabbits?
People are sick and tired of the government throwing millions upon millions of dollars at useless studies, positions, and departments that do not need to exist, as well as how their representatives in Congress and at the state level listen to and follow the orders of lobbyists and special interests rather than their own constituents.

I'm 20 and luckily not as ignorant as you are.

You are either willfully naive, or willfully ignorant. Your choice.
Anyone who has any desire for liberty and freedom should inherently distrust government.
The conduct of the national government over the last 100 years warrants total distrust.

When the Dems teamed up with the MSM and began employing personal assassination of character/motivation as a political tactic to beat down their Opposition. Bork...Thomas...Bush...and now the epitome of dirty politics....Trump coup.
They'll regret it. We all will.

If you read any history at all, you will see that governments are corrupt. You list Clinton's BJ but not whitewater or the Clinton foundation. You mention watergate but nothing about any of the recent wiretapping. Politicians are wealthy for being politicians.
Why does the left have such a distrust of corporations?

The founders created our government with great distrust.

If you measure government integrity by the number of high profile publicized scandals then you are naive or willfully ignorant. No offense meant but that's the truth

Take a trip to D.C. ....
That entire complex ... D.C. and surrounding ... living high on the hog ... while the rest of us struggle.
shite ... look at your fricking pay stub or W-2 ... and see how much of your own fricking hard earned money is being STOLEN to support your Government Masters, their dregs, and such.
That is assuming that you are not a leech ... and if you are .. then frick you.

Read a fricking book.
To answer your question, since the beginning of government.

When one political party decided it was in their interest to run on not trusting the government.

26. Yup. 2002 for me. I was still a few years away from realizing the ideals you spewed in your OP were false. You'll learn at some point.

Pretty much as soon as I started really paying attention to politics.

When people got off of mom and dad's funding and had to start paying for things their self.

When I was 15. I started checking docs written by the govt and found the indicts during debate rounds proved that they were false.

For me it started going downhill with Clinton and it's been getting worse and worse since.

It's not so much about distrusting the government in general, it is distrusting elected individuals using the government to better their own positions and agendas, instead of working for the well being of the citizens. Sadly that is what we see more than anything today.
