And how will it be determined?

Sorry if I'm out of the loop; I no longer live in BR.

St. George is never going to happen. The political power in Baton Rouge will never let it happen.

Political power in BR may be a shadow of itself if SWB starts fricking around with things.

The reported exodus of BRPD officers to EBRPSO because of her policy changes, if nothing else, says a lot about what effect they think Ms Mayor's policies will have on law enforcement.

The proposed boundaries were originally all of the unincorporated area of Baton Rouge. The rumor is that the boundaries will shrink for the next petition drive in order to have less signatures needed to collect. Once the city is created neighborhoods could be annexed into St. George

For people not in Baton Rouge, explain the political hurdles to getting this done.

Heavily disagree.

The "leaders" of the St. George movement were both dumb and naive. However, they tapped into something powerful. The support for St. George is only going to get stronger and you can get better/more prepared leaders.

The "political power" in Baton Rouge has played their biggest cards and no longer has the element of surprise.

Only real hurdle at this point is a federal lawsuit. So they better get some good legal advice.

That's not correct, it's only the umincorporated areas south and east of the present BR city limits.

There are small pockets of unincorporated areas south of Florida Blvd. not included (Towne Center for one), and large un incorporated areas in the northern parts of the parish.

I wouldn't say they were "dumb" more like not very smart when it came to playing politics, and yes they were definitely naïve.

Many were just good old boys wanting what's best for children, and not realizing how city hall and the status quo would fight back so hard.

I agree, they definitely need some good legal advice to navigate through the impending storm.

Since the last effort was made, things haven't gotten better; they have gotten worse. The school test scores have declined despite assurance the new supt. would make a difference.

And now you have racial strife when there use to be very little. The Sterling thing blew things wide open, and then the ambush of the cops by an extremist made it much worse.

I'm not blaming Broome here. She isn't at fault other than she was a leader in the legislature opposing St. George as an ISD and she was one of the ones telling them they needed to form a city before they came back to the legislature with another proposal for an ISD.

I hope the woman does a great job, but some of her "advisors" leave a lot to be desired. Alienating the cops right now wasn't smart either. It will be interesting to see if the status quo gets upset if she keeps going left.

One of my chief arguments against St. George was that it was dumb to form a city just to jump through some hoop to get an independent school district. Baton Rouge is basically well run.

However, policing is definitely a city issue. Her campaign promise to replace the police chief combined with some of the other rhetoric and choices coming from the mayor bring that issue to the forefront. Now there is a reason to form a city, with its own police force, for its own sake. The school district issue is just a bonus.

If the leaders get their act together and get well organized, this thing will fly.

Thxs, I corrected my mistake; all unincorporated areas South and east of the BR city limits were in the proposed SG.

Thxs again, my mistake.

I believe the proposed city of St. George basically combined the St. George and East Side Fire Districts.

I would have taken the ISD in a heartbeat and forgone the city. I said it then and I said it recently; however, things are changing and if that continues I'm changing my thinking.

I'm for redeveloping NBR as the mayor is, but I'm not for tearing down the police dept. I'm for upgrading it, and using an improved police dept. to help in the NBR efforts.

We also need a method to force NBR property owners to take care of the properties. Many let it run down and that makes their neighbors property worse.

NBR needs to be policed heavily, cleaned up, and the good citizens there be given support to improve their communities. Better schools would also help, but we've beaten that horse to death.

BTW, do you live in or outside BR City limits?

I think that's basically true if not completely true.

I live inside city limits.

I also live in that specially gerrymandered CATS tax bullshite tax district.

I haven't re-litigated all the issues surrounding St. George yet, and am eager to do so in the coming months. Hopefully Mayor Broome will figure out how to appease everyone. I am regretfully pessimistic (and I voted for her). Let's just say I am more open to St. George than I was, but waiting to see both the actions of the mayor and a concrete proposal.

That was scary, and set a bad precedent. I wasn't directly impacted, but have relations that pay, but what they did was wrong.

I'm surprised you voted for her, but Bodi was a terrible candidate. I gave him some support, but when I met him I was disappointed. Very disappointed.

I'd still take a compromise(no city but an ISD); but let's give the lady a shot. Maybe she's just placating her base and will move to the center. It doesn't appear to be that way, but we'll see soon.

She's got a police chief to hire, a CFO to hire and other departments need leaders. She inherited the Sterling thing, the Tram, the Train, Green Light II, Sewer (just saw our sewer TAX going up 4%), and the huge traffic and school issues which impact the city-parish.

If all she does is help people in NBR at the expense of SBR it will be a long four years. If she pisses off the Foundation crowd it will be even longer.

Same here. Had I not personally interacted with Bodi, I probably would have voted for him. He is dumb and corrupt.

And while Sharon wasn't "pro-business" during her time in the legislature, she wasn't a raving nut either. She was very moderate and most people liked working with her. She has a very professional demeanor.
