What will be Obama's legacy?
Posted by darnol91 on 1/17/17 at 7:35 am114
While not an Obama voter, or supporter, I think we could have been a lot worse off these past 8 years. I know I'll get flamed for that statement, but oh well.
What will be the legacy of Obama? How will it be written in text books. I know yall are going to tout a ton of negative facts about Obama, but all in all, I believe he will be remembered well. First Black president, of course, kind of solidifies text books attempting their best to make him sound better than he was. I do think it depends a lot on how well Trump does in his first term. If he blows all expectations (negative and positive) out of the water, I think we could see a shift in how many people viewed Obama. I think Obama's foreign relations were a joke, for the most part, but I do like Kerry as SoS. Obama still stuck his neck out for Israel, which surprises me, although I hate Israel, but that is one benefit to him in the eyes of the right.
Obviously, most of the literature will point towards Obamacare as his focus, which, in my honest opinion, is a move in the right direction, although the rollout, and eventual program was a bust. They will do everything in their power to make it look amazing, unless Trump tops it with something much better.
What's the political boards thoughts on this? I know many of the people on this board come off as ultra-right, and omnipotent, but step back and actually think of how they will spin it, not what you believe his legacy to be.

Race riots and the murder of police officers by BLM terrorists

Letters.
As in BLM, ACA and ISIL.

I would hope he'd be remembered as the president who used the most feared government agency in his arsenal to target Americans.
Social president more involved in societal change than with the economy or foreign policy.

quote:
What will be Obama's legacy?
That all our faults of a nation can no longer be attributed to angry old white men.
Now we can add angry young black men to the list of incompetents.
His legacy will be great. Reality vs Perception? It's perception.
History books will make him out to be the greatest president we have ever had. Truth doesn't matter. What matters is the author and editor and we know how that will go

Obama's legacy is TRUMP.
He does not have one.
Non-legacy items include failed healthcare system, hope in year 1 and no change in year 8, race baiting, stimulus package give-aways and massive ego.
Losing over 1,000 local, state and fed Dem seats in 8 years.

I think he'll be seen as a mixed bag. The economy is unquestionably in better shape than when took office (though who knows how much of that is because of Obama). On the other hand, his apologist, globalist approach towards foreign policy allowed Syria and Iraq to dissolve into chaos, and allowed our largest rivals to enhance their footing and influence in the world.

Foreign Policy was pretty terrible like you said.
Economic stuff was not the best, but not the worst, either. I think he was part of the bank bail-out though, which will probably be viewed with more scrutiny. It's still hard to view this because they changed the metrics for how everything is counted in order to make him look better.
His domestic policy; however, is something that better compares to McCarthyism than to the most recent presidents. You have terrorists, just like from the Bush Era, but the shift towards race relations continued to stretch the communities. It was more the Democratic Party than him, but he continuously supported this behavior. He basically supported the Black KKK, which is not something a president should ever do.
His use of executive orders will be heavily marked in higher level history books because many view it as a reach of power and will fuel discussion.
All in all, he wasn't a Hoover, but he sure as hell wasn't a George Washington. I would rank him in the lower half of presidents.
