that the President sincerely believes is a farce? When is it okay to fire such an FBI director? In your opinion.

Whenever he wants...we elected him to reign the bureaucracy in...not the status quo

Right so you would never criticize any president's firing of any FBI director. Okay.

Yep. Anyone who tells you there is some "separation of powers" in relation to the FBI is FOS. There is none. The president can fire the FBI director at any time for any reason.

It is up to Congress and the SCOTUS to keep a check on the president.

This is a political question, and it's personal. Not a
Constitutional question in this thread.

Is the director the only one investigating?

If Obama fired his FBI director for what I perceived as a shady reason, then I'm fine with it. However, if there was something "there" to investigate, I would hope CONGRESS would do it (it's their job).

I agree Congress is not a good investigative body (too political), but that's the system we have. There was a time when Congress could appoint a special counsel, but that law expired in 1999 and Congress did not renew it. Now all special counsels are appointed by the DoJ, which is still under the purview of the president.

If people see this as unfair or rigged in favor of the president, then it's up to Congress to change the law.

I get what you are saying. Trump had every right to fire Comey. Trump has not committed criminal obstruction. However, congress can still try to impeach him if they feel he was intending to obstruct, even if there isn't any criminal culpability (I just learned this tonight. It has never happened...but theoretically it could).

ETA: I should add that should this happen I would imagine there would be a case presented to the judicial branch if congress can impeach for "high crimes and misdemeanors" when no crime was committed.

To them their job is basically to fundraise for reelection and use their position to enrich themselves. Every last one of em.

A coverup is total bullshite, Trump is all about image and has been his whole life because the success of his businesses depends on that just like any other business.

There is no fricking way he's going to fire Comey when he (Trump) did something wrong or illegal, forget it.

Of course you can criticize.

But it's not illegal or wrong for him to fire any FBI director for any reason.

I find it hilarious that everyone is in meltdown mode over Comey's firing, as if Comey was the only person who was capable at the FBI and only one involved doing this investigation. Yet at the same time, they praise and welcome Mueller as a special prosecutor as if Comey and FBI was incompetent.. which is it? Can't have it both ways..

If it's not clear to you by now that Comey needed to be fired than no one here will convince you.

If the FBI director is wasting time chasing fantasies, he probably should be fired.
