What is the point of the UN? Why do we continue to be members?

I'm not of the persuasion to believe this is a false flag. I'm under no delusion that Assad cares about the rules of the west and he probably did go chemical.
I look at this from a state of...yeah so?
This is the entire point of the UN. To protect human atrocities. Why should they not intervene and why would it be the US' job instead? So if they don't do their job and don't do anything why are we members of an absolutely pointless organization?

One world gubment, redistribution of wealth, ... etc.
They should be kicked out of the country and we should not give them another dime.
This was a good start today on the money issue.
President Donald Trump just cut $32.5 million from one of the United Nations’ lead agencies as part of his effort to crack down on U.S. abortion funding around the world.
The funding, which had already been earmarked for this current fiscal year, will be yanked from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the UN’s family planning agency, NPR reported this week.

I think probably a more reasonable conclusion to come to is that you have no idea what that job actually is. Maybe do some research before you ask such a ridiculous question.
