If you consider Kim Jong Un a rational player, this entire thing has to be posturing. This isn't the same thing as Iran or other ME threats where there is the radical Islam element.

They know if one missile is launched at Gaum it is guananteed annihilation for the regime.

But I guess there is that other element where Un is truly insane. Living a life in which you are treated as a supreme deity by millions probably gets to your head at some point.

More $$$. Won't happen with Trump, though. They will have to bend the knee if China drops the economic hammer.

Reality: If they fire any more missiles, say bye to NK

This shenanigans is his end game. Literally. His game is ending. Doubt he will still be alive (or at least in power) this time next year.

Trump ruined their plans.

I agree with this. He's afraid of losing power and will do so by being so afraid.

He doesn't understand that no one gives a crap about his country, except China using it for a buffer zone, and he's leading it to destruction.

The dude is obsessed with his own well being.

If reports are true that he received a Western education in Switzerland, he is probably somewhat rational. If he had never left NK as a child I might fear that he truly believes he is an invincible god with supernatural powers.

I believe that most of these threats stem from the fact that all of his life he watched his father threaten the US with no consequences. He thinks he is doing the same but does not know that Trump is a total wild card. After he killed half of his family and closest advisers, he is now surrounded by yes-men who would never actually tell him that Trump is willing to blow NK off the map. He feels emboldened by the fact that he now has nukes and is ramping up the threats. I think he will be completely shocked if the US bombs NK. He sees the US over the last 25 years as one country and one government as opposed to 4 separate governments under vastly different leaders. He is assuming that Trump is scared of war in the region like Obama, Bush, and Clinton were.

Trump is practically begging KJU to bomb Guam. Presidents always love to show some foreign affairs muscle when they are struggling with legislation or approval ratings. Foreign affairs is the one area where they have almost total control regardless of their domestic popularity. Trump wants this to be his legacy.

They want total control of the Korean Peninsula. Their mythology is that they are the most dominant race on the planet as well as the first civilization to exist. Since Korea was split at the 38th parallel they use lower case south and north in front of Korea when referring to each country. They also know that they cannot win a war against the US but consider to be a hedgehog that would reke havoc on everyone from all sides if they were to see their demise coming and not go out like dictators in the past who were overthrown and publicly killed.

Korea is used to rattling it's saber the west capitulates and gives them something. It's not going to happen anymore. Fat Kim just hasn't caught on yet. The world has lost patience with him. I don't see a happy ending for Kim.

Probably doesnt believe the US wants to waste massive military resources that will not benefit from a natural resources or geopolitical stand point. A major US attack would be a waste in political clout where the only gain would be as a military real life exercise, while helpful, is vastly out weighed by all of the negatives of military resources and men that would be used plus all the cost of control and rebuilding.

A counter strategy of precision bombing under a constructed news report of damaging their strategic military apparatus to call their bluff that they want to attack South Korea and risk Total War and complete annihilation would show them that we mean business and not political posturing with a waiting period and further warning of escalation of force with the end game of Total War if submission of their nuclear capabilities isnt immediately and promptly realized.
