What does it mean for me to check my privilege?
Posted by Jax-Tiger on 9/21/17 at 9:15 pm100
Serious question.
I always thought that it meant that I should be mindful of and respect the opinions of people who have a different background than I do. Other people may be sensitive to things that don't bother me, because I didn't grow up as a minority.
I have been directly told to "check my privilege", but it was by a white homeless dude, and it was funny, in a way, but sad at the same time, because the guy had obviously fried his brain with drugs and was panhandling for a living. Other than that, the usual internet stuff...
Recently, I was told by someone I know on Facebook to check my privilege and it didn't make sense to me. He then told me that he knew I wasn't a racist, but because I am white, I don't know what it is like to be a non-white and that I can't be a part of the discussion. Checking my privilege means that I need to understand that my opinion doesn't count in the racial discussions.
I had some things to say about that, but I want to know what does "Check your privilege." actually mean?
BTW: The guy who told me that is an Indian guy who came to the US as a child, his parents are both physicians, he went to Georgia Tech and currently works for Deloitte as an IT consultant making very good money. So for him to tell me that I have privilege is pretty rich...

It means you need to quit your job and make sure someone in a qualified victim group gets it. You need to give all of your earthly possession to someone in a victim group and then kill yourself to make sure you don't ever oppress anyone else with your privilege ever again.

Basically, the fact that you're a white man, and you have caused each and every problem/atrocity in world history, says the liberal.

It means the accuser has a lifetime of bad decisions and is still struggling to make wise life altering decisions and is upset at your good fortune of living comfortably from making good life decisions to get you to the point you are at when accosted verbally.

Means to look at yourself/check your appearance, make a checkmark symbol sign, say thank goodness and walk away

It's like they say: the most privileged people are the tards who bitch the most about privilege.
I also had a dude on Facebook call me privileged and yet, according to his Facebook, he lived in West Hollywood, CA, drove a new BMW convertible and was clearly able to travel the globe based on his photos. It's impossible to debate such an idiot.
I always say actions speak louder than words and all libtards do is talk while it's a statistical fact that Republicans are far more charitable with their money and services than liberals are. Another example would be the enormous amount of supplies gathered and all the white Republican males who risked their lives to fight a flood in order to save the lives of many in Texas while libtards sat behind their computers and wished death on everyone in Texas simply because they voted Trump.
Liberals bitch all day about privilege and oppression yet you don't see them sending money to blacks, moving to their neighborhoods or putting forth any physical effort to improve minority lives/communities. But when it comes to talking, they'll bitch your ear off.

It means you need to tell that person "go frick yourself". Everyone is entitled to whatever privilege they have earned. Just being white doesn't earn you anything, just like you have mentioned in your post about a homeless white dude...................

I think it means that because of "what you are' that you should have no voice and no opinion.
What you think doesn't matter because of "what you are".
Racism at it's finest.
