What are the odds we DON'T get tax reform sometime in the next four years?

I think it's a foregone conclusion that it WILL happen, unless this Russia thing really has legs and enough Republicans in Congress have a mass cuck out.

Getting the GOPe nutjobs in Congress to pass it will be the hurdle. Trump is obviously all for it.

Depends. If you're talking massive tax reform, the chances are very, very small.

Small, incremental changes that just result in making the tax code more complex is much more likely to happen.

Recent history shows that Congress isn't up to the task of tackling major reform on much. ACA is the only recent action they've undertaken and gotten passed.

GOP Grand Scheme On Obamacare Repeal & Tax Reform Quickly Going South

quote:

The GOP strategy on quickly repealing the Affordable Care Act and enacting tax reform that seemed to be so creative and smart when it was first revealed right after the election may soon become the prime source of legislative hell for House and Senate Republicans. Knowing that a Senate filibuster was virtually certain on ACA repeal and highly probable on tax reform, the GOP plan was to use the reconciliation process -- which prevents filibusters -- to pass them both.

Now that Democrats are starting to care about taxes, hopefully that means reform will come soon.

I think something will be done. But it may not be much.

And it doesn't address the real issue--excessive and unnecessary spending on programs that are not only Constitutionally dubious (at best, likely not even Constitutional at all) but duplicative and fraught with fraud, waste, and abuse.

There's a very strong lobby and union that will fight it tooth and nail. We should have had major reforms years ago but yet we still have a labyrinth book of tax codes.

This is probably the seminal promise of Trump's campaign, and if he can't in some form get something done in this area then he will have been a total failure and probably also won't have gotten much of anything else done either. Seems kind of unlikely to play out quite like that, but I guess we're still yet to see.
