What started as a liberal branding to discredit conservative media has been completely taken over, bastardized and turned into a joke by the right.

You don't even hear liberals talking about fake news anymore.

It didn't really take over once Trump started blasting Twitter with it.

They stopped using it if you haven't noticed.

The Washington Post wrote a piece telling the Left to STFU about "Fake News".

They knew pretty fast it was backfiring on them w/ the quickness.

I remember the Washington Times citing a poster on this board as a news source.

Wapo waiving the white flag

But though the term hasn’t been around long, its meaning already is lost. Faster than you could say “Pizzagate,” the label has been co-opted to mean any number of completely different things: Liberal claptrap. Or opinion from left-of-center. Or simply anything in the realm of news that the observer doesn’t like to hear.

“The speed with which the term became polarized and in fact a rhetorical weapon illustrates how efficient the conservative media machine has become,” said George Washington University professor Nikki Usher.

As Jeremy Peters wrote in the New York Times: “Conservative cable and radio personalities, top Republicans and even Mr. Trump himself .?.?. have appropriated the term and turned it against any news they see as hostile to their agenda.”

It was unwise of the leftist media to introduce a phrase like that a couple months after the whole country realized how false their coverage of the election campaign was

Yes. They have no self-reflection.

They accuse the other side of what they are doing.

The takeover of the "fake news" slogan has been entertaining.

Like when liberals created the "fake news" craze. They aren't quite self aware yet are they?

I still stand by that story the Washington Times ran. A year or so later I discussed the story with a security detail from state department. Their claim is that both sides of the aisle were so deep in that we would never know the truth. They added you could not believe the testimony or conclusions from the congressional investigative committees either. They confirmed there was truth to the story but the ones in charge would never allow the truth to come to light.
