Walmart is trying to out-Amazon Amazon

Vice article
(Went there after reading the Mt. Rushmore tweet stories.)
It's an interesting intersection of politics, culture, and commerce. For all the complaints people throw at Walmart, it fundamentally changed retailing and had a huge role in making life cheaper for people. So has Amazon.
Still, it doesn't take much to see this as a proxy of the Trump wars. The article seems to be making a point that Walmart's strategy is expensive and not paying off. Amazon lost money for years while people mocked Bezos. He's now the richest dude in the world.
If Walmart gets traction with their strategy to rival Amazon online, it will be interesting to see how it is covered.

Walmart’s push to boost its online shopping business is starting to pay off, but it’s an expensive purchase.
Online sales at largest U.S. retailer rose 60 percent during the most recent quarter, as the company benefited from a slew of investments in online shopping sites.
That sales boost has come at a cost — Walmart spent a bunch of cash buying up sites like online shoe seller Shoebuy.com, outdoor retailer Moosejaw and menswear company Bonobos. It also spent over $3 billion to buy Jet.com last fall.

Wal-mart has got to fix their website. Its horrible compared to Amazon. Takes FOREVER to load compared to amazon either on a phone or PC.

Amazon Prime has been slipping lately, last year or so. "Free 2-day shipment" now takes almost a week sometimes and the other day I noticed they added taxes after the listed price of an item I gpt

I never understand how paying $99 / year means I am getting free shipping.

It's just catchier than 'unlimited shipping for a yearly fee'

Competition is good. Last thing we want is either with a complete monopoly

I'm the one making that claim. I thought it was a pretty well established story, but here is Inc's take.
