I am pointing out the absurdity of the current law. It is proof that the law can be perverted by bad people.

Well, for full disclosure: I am UNCOMFORTABLY pro choice. I do not look down upon those that believe otherwise and I support their right to petition their gov't for changes.

I just see nothing absurd or perverted about charging a person with 'disrupting commerce' when they are...well....disrupting LEGAL commerce.

That was the only comment of yours with which I take exception. We (perhaps) are on opposition sides of the bigger issue. But, I hold no disagreement with you over THAT.

What's the "equivalent" service of helping someone give birth?

Whats the "equivalent" service of any OB/GYN service?

The way this is worded literally makes no sense to me.

Have you ever seen the liberal dumb azz protesters like the Vietnam war protesters or the Wall streeters get charged with disrupting commerce ?

There are lots of examples of this sort of thing that I find ridiculous.

But, if I am speeding and get ticketed...I'll not act as if i am NOT guilty just because there were others that 'got away with it', too

quote:

And you couldn't figure this out ?

Figure what out? I just disagree with the idea that it is a ridiculous charge.

The most horrid and vile aspect of abortion to me is that if you try to block the door to an abortion clinic, you are charged with disrupting commerce.

Well if that's the worst part to you, then why bother blocking the door anyway?

I think the issue is they take exception with is the wording.

The "Commerce" taking place at clinics is aborting the life of a child/fetus (whatever you want to call it). It seems a bit crass to call it obstructing commerce.

I don't think they have a problem with people being charged for blocking a legal act.

When you do not charge the left leaning protesers with the same law you are being antagonistic because of politics , which makes any law null and void when not applied evenly.

There is no comparison with speeding.

The comparison would with targeting only black speeders or women speeders or even white speeders.

When you do not apply any law evenly , that law in effect will be ruled to be , not a reasonable law.

YOU CAN NOT ENFORCE LAWS THIS WAY.

Again, I am on your side (to a degree).

I am the one that has been very vocal about the hypocrisy of things like your example, and PC language police, etc.

I just do not agree with your contention that the law becomes "null and void" because it is not evenly applied. It is repugnant. And, I'll stand with you in calling for equal application. But, not "he did it so I get to do it"

No comparison to speeding laws.
Comparison would be targeting only black drivers.

I EDITED ABOVE TO INCLUDE THIS THOUGHT...

The null and void thought comes from this.....

If laws are on the book and NEVER enforced , then years later some SUPERCOP decides to charge someone , judges have ruled the law as such.

Leftist protesters get arrested all the time for "Disturbing the peace" or "Interference with Commenrce". The red herring here does not swim.

re: WA AG: If a hospital has a maternity ward they have to do abortions
So if the hospital accepts government money then the hospital has to provide "like" services? Is this the correct interpretation of this opinion? If I am correct in this description then:

1. How might this be affected by the religious affiliation of the Catholic hospital? I am not sure if this issue was clearly resolved in teh ACA.

2. If the hospital refuses to accept fed money then they may refuse to provide "like" services, correct?

How many union picket line marchers get arrested for interfering with commerce?

@blackhelicopterpilot
This type of language is precisely the type of legal jargon used to classify slaves (human beings deserving of dignity) as chattel. Our babies are being treated as non human parasites and the law defends that position. That doesn't make the law any more right today than it was all those years ago. I hope someday that our children will look back at us with the same level of disgust that we look at our forefathers who chose to disregard human life for the benefit of personal pleasure and financial satisfaction.

It's well thought out, reasoned responses like this that really win over the opposition.

Just curios:

Why do I so often see these "celebs" getting arrested: Martin Sheen, Daryl Hannah, etc.

Seems they often are at some protest and getting arrested.

I don't know and don't really care about brainless celebs.

But I do know the right to have an abortion is not in the constitution , and the 55 million murders is a stench to Gods nostrils , repense will be required.

Maybe the Godless society is coming home to roost with the children reminding me of the movie “ Clockwork Orange ”

This is ridiculous.

Abortion is a blight upon this country and the world at large. God help us.

If a clinic does abortions, should they also have a maternity ward?

I think it is "in kind". If you provide services, then match services. If you provide Information, then match information

So if you deliver babies you have to perform abortions both are beyond information.

The truth is they wanted this regulation because there are very little abortion clinics compared to a few decades ago. Very few abortionists that are full doctors as well especially with late term. So they are so obsessed with having abortion that even after allowing it freely now that it is in decline they are using the power of government to prop it up?
