I'm sure this has been discussed before, but why is having an ID to vote so taboo on the left?

I personally think everyone should have to give a little effort to vote since its so important. People have several years to get an ID - yet supposedly this is difficult to do.

Our political parties go drag people out of their houses or help them fill out absentee ballots just to go vote - just to do it - They are ruining our country. Encourage someone to vote - but make sure that means getting educated on the issues.

You want to go to Al's new office in B'ham, light a bag of poop on fire, ring the doorbell, and run away?

Because it makes voter fraud very difficult in majority black precincts, where Dems have free reign to stuff the boxes.

The Phildadelphia Inquirer reported today that, in 59 precincts in inner-city Philadelphia, the GOP nominee received not a single vote. And according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, nine precincts in Cleveland returned zero Romney votes.

Stuff like this.

59 precincts and not one person voted for Romney, not even on accident?

Complete straw man, sort of like the ole "War on Women"..absurd that someone is called racist when they think fellow voters should show an ID, while we have thousands of Dem voters streaming across the border..

Voter fraud is harder without an ID. You cant fly or cash a check with out ID but you can elect government leaders. This makes perfect sense

Because it's just a thinly veiled poll tax

I agree to an extent. I wish people cared enough about voting to be more informed and to put in that extra effort to make a good choice.

However everyone knows what demographic voter ID laws are targeting and who would benefit from that demographic not voting. This isn't about making sure those who vote are "putting in a little effort". It's about controlling who votes

You think there should be no controls on voting? That's pretty ignorant.

So flying and cashing checks also have poll taxes?

It is not about discouraging voters. It is about making sure 1- People who are dead don't vote. 2- People who have moved out of state don't vote twice. (I did this once in the 90's to see if it worked and it did. La didn't ask for ID. I had only a Texas DL)

Why is proving who you are so damned hard to ask for a voter? Try getting a DL in Illinois... Those bastards want the OLD DL, an orginal BS (Birthers I guess), Social security card (Original), Utility bill and an insurance policy. Just to get a DL...

To vote..... Sign your name and have at it.

You all know the real purpose of this law and just don't what to say it because it makes ya'll look bad. But everyone knows

You think the controls should benefit a single party only? Sounds pretty ignorant to me

I have to admit though, the spin on this is pretty impressive. Making it about "frauds" and it "helping America" when really it's just about keeping black people from voting has worked pretty well.

Like I said, the spin is impressive

If it really was about stopping fraud then you'd think support would be pretty universal, right? Instead, it's almost exclusively pushed by Republicans.

Democrats don't want to stop it because it is an expected part of their base. Please tell me you have more common sense than that?

Are you really that gullible to believe this is all about stopping fraud?

You can replace "black" with "poor" if you want

We are talking about ID. You realize this? What is the general population that walks around with no ID at all? I believe to cash governement assistance vouchers or purchases ID is required.

You really hate ID's. Why?

Yes, Democrats don't want to exclude people from voting. How is that a bad thing?

Also, voter fraud isn't even an issue

LINK

It's a long read but it essentially shows that fraud is essentially non-existent

Dude, you really are "all in" race baiting as well? Just so you know you brought up race. We are talking about ID... (Proving you are who you say you are). Sounds to me like you have more than an ID problem. Good luck with that

erm where did I say that?

However, making people get an entire other ID just to vote is only going to discourage people who can't find adequate transportation, or other problems with getting (Hint: most problems will be found among poor people)

Also, LINK
(another long read, sorry)

shows that Between 2006 and 2011, if a state elected a Republican governor, increased its share of Republican legislators, or became more competitive while under a Republican, it was more likely to pass voter ID and other restrictions on the franchise.
