Unexpected rise in jobless claims

LINK

And an upward revision of last week of course. Just to be consistant.

quote:

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 380,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The prior week's figure was revised up to 367,000 from the previously reported 357,000.

Beat me to it.

BLS should be investigated for fraud.

I suspect if you took all of the "revised" numbers from the last legitimate reading, it probably would show an upward trend. However, most of the reports in the few months have been of fairly consistent declines with occasional "unexpected" jumps.

An article cited here earlier in the week was on an article Re female unemployment numbers for the last 39 months. The NYT said in it that we needed to wait until the FALL to make a determination on what was the cause. The greatest number of people effected by the RECESSION(can't say the D word) have been women in America.

I am genuinely surprised it hasn't been 57 out of 57.

That is fraud...I would love to see an argument against this being fraud that has it nexus in the department of labor and is carried forward by the media. 56 out of 57 times?!? Really!?!

Exactly. Reminds of that scene from The Princess Bride.

It's always an "unexpected" rise in claims and an "unexpected" tsunami and "unexpected" oil platform explosion.

I do have the Obama campaign slogan for his re-election and am posting it here for all to see and calling on VOR to be my legal rep to copyright it immediately for me so I can sue if it is used and I am not compensated.

re: Unexpected rise in jobless claims
So, after the "seasonably adjusted" changes and next week's "revised upwards" corrections, we're still looking at almost 400,000 weekly jobless claims after "the stimulus worked" and "Obama saved us" BS?

Only a Democrat with a complicit media could get away with this nonsense. Shame on people for supporting this complete failure of a presidency.

It's not on CNN's website that I can find. That's covered with the distraction out of Florida.

re: Unexpected rise in jobless claims
Why doesn't this get questioned EVERY TIME the administration trots out a new 'improvement' in joblessness = 'good times ahead.'

Any responsible journalist would have pounced on that the third or fourth time the initial report had to be 'revised upward' - but after 56 of 57 reports have been low-balled, you would think it would be perfunctory exercise to challenge it.

crickets

It will be interesting to see how Shepard Smith treats today's figures in his 3 PM (EST) broadcast on Fox. With the MSM claiming in 7 of the last 8 weeks that the first-times claims figure was "the lowest since 2008", Shepard has introduced each of those week's numbers with phrases like "Great news for the economy" and "The economy continues to strengthen" while gushing with excitement. Will he look somber today while reporting this "setback"?
