Arkansas went all Republican a few years back for the first time in a 100 years. Right now they have a choke hold on the Dem party.

There are reasons this is happening. I've been around long enough to know what it is but I'll wait for you to live as long as I have to see if you agree.

Damn 1964 was a total about face from Democrat to 95% Republican.

Hmmm, I wonder what happened in 1964?

Maybe this map will help.

Could we call it a July surprise that produced the greatest flip-flop of a voters in American history?

Then angry racist Democrats joined the Republican party because... wait that fell apart quickly.

This has happened all over the South over the last 10 years. I think Republicans just captured both houses in Kentucky this past November.

The idea that racists switched parties is a lie. The South has only been solidly Republican for about 20 years. Racist Democrats in the South eventually just died. They didn't switch parties.

As imjustafatkid pointed out, a higher percentage of Republicans voted to pass the CRA than Democrats. The idea this encouraged racists to switch, doesn't make any sense.

You're right.

Racist Southern Democrats were angry that the Civil Rights Bill was passed. So they joined the party that overwhelmingly voted to pass the bill .

Makes sense.

It's blacks who switched party allegiance and felt bad about leaving Linclon's republicans who freed the slaves and switching over to the democrats between FDR and his new deal and LBJ promising to hook blacks on the plantation for 200 years

And modern republicans are more likely to align with a black conservative than a white liberal, proving that voting is more motivated by ideas than race.

What is certain is that racist white southern Democrats voted against the civil rights act and democtats everywhere else voted for it. The act got a majority of both parties. That explains the third party votes, until it became clear that the Republican Party would become the safe space for the southern racists.

The more innovative move be republicans under Reagan was to expand the party by attracting people who were not southern racists. This may have been accomplished by the intellectual appeal of conservative writers. But those conservative intellectuals are now "cucks." That appeal will not continue in the near future.

As a minority, I find this thread and you in particular far more racist than those evil white southerners that passed the civil rights act.

He'll just consider you an Uncle Tom bro.

He thinks "the blacks" are inferior and the liberal whites need to take care of them.

It's called soft bigotry.

I only have my Grandparents to gauge this on. They were each lifelong southern Democrats....until the failure of Carter coupled with the arrival of Reagan. My Grandmother finally made it official and switched parties in 1980.

That's a very bizarre statement. You are against voting rights? Are you against workplace protection? How are you opposed to basic civil rights?
