Murkowski and Collins.

Looks like VPOTUS might have to use his tie-breaking vote as President of the Senate to get her confirmed.

Literally, the least important cabinet position there is. Hopefully, she is just there to mange the draw down and disbandment of the department.

Just let that department wither away without a leader...

Good for them. She is the most unqualified candidate, even including Rick Perry, chosen. She is horribly unqualified. Anyone who watched her confirmation hearing knows this.

Agreed.

She is my least favorite of Trump's cabinet picks, but I don't really care if she is confirmed because of how little the Department of Education actually does.

The Secretary of Education really only writes FAFSA checks. That's about it.

I don't think I'd vote for her either. I was not impressed with her qualifications at all.

Government schools are the establishment of religion. Trump should EO this department out of existence. A secretary is not needed.

And Perry at least has experience running a state. DeVos hasn't done that--all she has on her resume is political fund-raising and being married to the owner of a MLM scheme disguised as a business.

No, but Murkowski presented concerns about school choice and accountability as it relates to extremely rural areas where choices are limited. I wonder why a Senator from Alaska would be concerned about rural education.

Of course, it can't be that, even if the policies are better everywhere else, that she think it may not be for her constituents, in such a unique state.

And it can't be that, she looked unprepared, and far below the standard of competence we would expect from hiring the "best," unlike the other nominees this go around.

Nope. It must be that an Alaskan, republican senator is paid off by a national teacher union.

Although, if you have some evidence then, I'll agree with you.

No they're not...both are from extremely rural states where public schools are vital. Both are also concerned about the Nominee's qualifications, which saying are limited is charitable.

Yeah. A person's views are only part of the equation. If can't competently apply those views, then those views are essentially worthless. Worse yet, it may make people confuse poor implementation with the views themselves.

If those areas are in need of additional resources for education then feel free to be charitable and donate. Using the force of the civil government to force others to fund your educational beliefs is wrong.

because lots and lots of Republicans are 100% with the NEA and receive donations from them

What funding are you talking about, and how does not voting for Devos force others to fund the Alaskan educational system?
