Spent his first month in office solidifying and rallying his base while at the same time exposing the insanity of the far left radicals. Then in one fell swoop shifts his entire focus to a centrist-common sense approach featuring both classic Dem and Rep core values therefore reaching an entire new base while still solidly keeping his old one.

Hell by next year he could have 80% of the country in his pocket leaving only the lunatic fring left which would never vote for him even if he campaigned as a communist. If this works it will be one of the smartest, most effective political moves in history.

I have to admit...he really is a genius.

The moves I think at times are idiotic have proven time and time again to be setups for traps that the progs just can't help but step in

You could tell Bannon is one insanely strategic, genius type guy from the CPAC stuff. This is some shite straight out of Game Of Thrones when it comes to the long con.

I don't think his stream of consciousness tweets are anything but retardation at times.

That said, there are no breaks on this train

The man is totally convinced he can pull this off. He gets his confidence from building hotels and golf courses. Think about that for a minute. Try it and see how easy it is. He's been moving mountains for years. This is old hat to him.

At some point he will court Democratic votes and twist republican arms to get the votes he needs. It will be something to behold. I cannot wait.

Month 1: get the most divisive things done first (immigration, SCOTUS, etc) and simultaneously destroy the media with the fake news

Month 2: completely turn the tables and preach unity at state of the union whil making the democrats look awful

Bannon

Not so fast, my friend. He's putting huge pressure on the hard-headed, status quo congressmen via the people. He spoke to them tonight. This will be a recurring theme. Ryan and the hard-heads will capitulate in the end. Mark my words.

I've never seen anything even close to this in all of the years that I've followed politics. Truth.

I think Bannon is possibly the genius behind this tactic, but Trump was smart enough to campaign on a right leaning populist campaign while everyone else stuck to the status quo...ALL while publicly and self admittedly being a Democrat basically his whole life. He read the the electorate better than anyone else.

I am not a fan of Trumps tweeting nor his sometime insane public demeanor. I did not vote for him in the primaries and held my damn nose while voting for him in the general......BUT if he is doing what I think he is doing, he's the most cunning and aware politician possibly in American history.

Gotta keep it up. He won't have a stage like this for a while.

Stop the petty attacks and give the people more of what we saw tonight. More of that forces the left's hand.

He has pulled off something that no recent Republican has done with any real success. He's managed to rebrand the Left as the party of no.

You're right, pretty much what I said in the speech thread. Trump "the clown" has become the Dims worst nightmare and after the speech his biggest ally will be the American people.

Yep, Trump needs to let the MSM destroy themselves, they will implode if Trump does not engage with them.

I've never trusted Presidents.

Because they all eventually and rather quickly become spokes in the wheel.

But I've never seen a President with this much confidence.

And lack of fear.

Trump might actually buck the trend and not get swallowed up in Washington. We shall see.

I would assume his people are seeing these positive, specific responses all over tv and the internet and seeing that he needs to stop tweeting and stop being a cartoon character....just speak truthfully, calmly, and use common sense policies and 8 yrs will be a lock.

I was listening to NPR on the way back from picking up dinner and they pretty much called what was about to happen to them in Trump's speech. One of the guests was asked "What if Trump isn't radical tonight? What if Trump actually proposes very moderate and popular bipartisan proposals?" Their response was that he has been so divisive and radical with his rhetoric to date that democrats won't be willing to work with him even if he reaches across the aisle.

See, I see it as the opposite. Trump hasn't been "divisive", the media and the DNC have been. They have completely painted themselves into a corner. They have called every conservative a crazy, evil, idiotic faschist, racist, bigot nazi for as long as I can remember. They tried to paint McCain, the most moderate rep in the Senate as a right wing radical, and Romney, the most polite and milktoast politician in history, as a zealot loon. They cried "radical" so much that when Trump came in, they had no choice but to cry even louder.

The problem is, Trump's none of the things they describe him as (except maybe a misogynist). They went so far over the top with characterizing Trump as evil, as literally Hitler, that they have left no middle ground. How can a democrat in Congress explain to its district supporting a proposal championed by "literally Hitler"? They have to oppose everything Hitler says and does or else be labeled as all of the evil things Hitler is. They can't even support Trump's plans that are actually things they support like protections for workers and infrastructure improvements.

I call it, the Autoban dilemma.

Imagine a Jew in the Reichstad in the 1930's. Hitler, who has already expressed hatred for the Jews and a desire to round them up and exterminate them all, proposes building the autoban. Could a Jew rationalize supporting the Autobahn when doing so would mean supporting part of Hitler's agenda?

Can the Democrats be pragmatic or has their partisanship and propaganda backed them into a corner where they cannot be seen compromising even a little on things they actually want?

Impressive delivery tonight. He actually looked like a boss.

It's better than listening to protestors shouting during prayers and the Pledge of Allegience (sorry, Senator Cassidy).
