ricans who swept President Trump to victory — lower-income, older voters in conservative, rural parts of the country — stand to lose the most in federal healthcare aid under a Republican plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, according to a Times analysis of county voting and tax credit data.

Among those hit the hardest under the current House bill are 60-year-olds with annual incomes of $30,000. In nearly 1,500 counties nationwide, such a person stands to lose more than $6,000 a year in federal insurance subsidies. Ninety percent of those counties backed Trump, the analysis shows.

quote:

And 68 of the 70 counties where these consumers would suffer the largest losses supported Trump in November.

Most affected by the Republican health plan would be parts of Alaska, Arizona, Nebraska, Tennessee and Oklahoma, where Obamacare insurance subsidies have been crucial in making high-priced insurance affordable. All five states went for Trump. Also hit hard would be parts of key swing states that backed Trump, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Michigan.

quote:

Meanwhile, higher-income, younger Americans — many of whom live in urban areas won by Democrat Hillary Clinton — stand to get more assistance in the Republican legislation.

Faring best would be the nation’s wealthiest residents, who would see a substantial tax cut with the elimination under the House GOP bill of two levies on high-income taxpayers. These taxes — on individuals making more than $200,000 and couples making more than $250,000 — were included in Obamacare to help offset the cost of assisting lower-income Americans.

The disproportionate impact of the House Republican plan threatens to undercut one of Trump’s core promises that he would replace Obamacare with a plan that would take care of all Americans.

Republicans doing republican things. Help the rich and exploit the poor and lower income families. I'm sure The CEOs of these insurance companies will spend your money wisely when you get hit with the penalties.

I notice you left out why they needed the subsidies in the first place.

The bill coming out of the House is not the one Trump will sign.

I would be something to see it hit harder than Obamacare did with a Premiums doubling, tripling like they are doing now, but I guess time will tell...,

It's a dogshit bill not because it might remove subsidization of certain people, but because it does nothing to address the reasons behind rising prices. The legislative solution to increased premiums and deductibles is not to give direct subsidies, or indirect ones (like tax credits), but to eliminate barriers to entry for certain medical services, allow actual market competition for pharmaceuticals instead of being protected by the FDA, allow for intrastate insurance markets, and overall allow a wide legal berth for different forms of coverage and service provision to be done by both consumers and providers.

Where did I say that? How about we get rid of government monopolies on health insurance instead of piling on more shite?

This current bill is part 1 of 3 parts, but hey who cares about that?

Let's compare this 1/3 to the whole of Obozocare and throw the baby out with bath water. Why wait for the other 2/3 when we can whine, bitch, moan about this 1/3 now?

Oh, just be sure and get this bill and not the Ryan Bill as the proper target. Noticed the other thread was RAGE about the Ryan Bill including a mandate like Obozocare including penalty for no coverage and calling it Trump Care.

Sen. Tom Cotton warned House Republicans on Sunday that the House Republican Obamacare replacement bill can't pass the Senate as written — and that they could lose the House in next year's elections if they vote for it. "I'm afraid that if they vote for this bill, they're going to put the House majority at risk next year," Cotton said on ABC's "This Week." He warned that it would have "adverse consequences for millions of Americans" and wouldn't lower costs: "Do not walk the plank and vote for a bill that cannot pass the Senate and then have to face the consequences of that vote."

...but, I'm the common man and Trump said he'd never forget about me. He even gave me a shiny red ballcap and everything.
