Not really. The View tried to pin Dr. Phil down on this and he shut them down pretty quick...
Dr. Phil is not a psychologist or psychiatrist.

Just to be clear, we are talking about the Clintons and Obamas, right???

He is as textbook narcissistic personality disorder or as they come. Deep insecurities are at the root.
I agree, he's a classic narcissist.

And that's good?

Dr. Phil is not a psychologist or psychiatrist.
And while he's technically not a psychologist, since he's not longer licensed, that doesn't make his opinion somehow less than if he maintained it.

How do any of you retards interpret that as insecure?

I can't imagine why anyone would think he's a narcissistic, petulant, child.

That's probably the only truthful, factual thing that he's said in the past few... actually probably his whole life.

Insecurity does not rise to the level of a defense mechanism, just saying...fyi

quote:We don't know whether he was insecure, but that behavior is often a sign of insecurity, although it could be a sign of a number of things. But a lot of times people who are insecure, try to overcompensate with a perceived behavior that is usually considered the opposite.
Insecure? Based on what? Your vaunted opinion!!! He is so insecure he ran for POTUS. Give it up...please, as the embarrassment is getting to be a bit too much to digest.

Again. I'm not saying it was insecurity, but his behavior, especially since it was unnecessary, could be a sign of it.

Correct, we don't know and correct it can be overcompensated for. Here is the irony, we cannot determine insecurity but will use narcissism without batting an eye....we are such an interesting lot
and fwiw, a defense mechanism is an unconscious process for the user. It is observed by others, however. Once no longer unconscious it is no longer a defense mechanism.

Defending yourself from slander and lies is not insecurity.

defending yourself and "becoming defensive" are not the same thing

No.
I mean how a man so successful can be so insecure.
I'll never understand that.
Really? You don't understand how a billionaire, who is the most socially progressive Republican to ever win office, yet is attacked daily by the main stream media and the left and called racist, homophobic, etc... Has successfully kept and created thousands of jobs by simply negotiating with business leaders and yet again is called "Literally Hitler" by the media and left...
You don't understand how that is frustrating? You need to understand human emotion.

He's defensive of himself even when he's caught in a lie. That's not normal.
When you're incapable of saying "I was wrong" or conveying that sentiment you have some kind of disorder.

It is a defense mechanism. Insecurity is a reasonable basis for it, but there are a number of other potential reasons, although most (or all) are probably inherently negative.
This round goes to buckeye.
