Planning to earmark funds to dredge the Mississippi River to 50 ft allowing larger ships access; the dredged material/sediment to be used to restore coastline.

Best first week for a President, ever.

This is a state project I could almost get behind. We've screwed people living on the coast of Louisiana and we need to undo the harm as much as we can.

I don't want to sound like an Eco-Nanny, but the sediment in the river has to contain some of the most vile crap imaginable. Do you really want that sludge dumped in the marshes?

Before they cleaned up the Lake, the river water was actually cleaner.

Won't it end up there anyway? River silts in...new silted flood water overflows...same outcome. Just saying.

Could we maybe get the BR Loop, I-95, and the Comite diversion while we're at it? Oh, and if it's not too much trouble, finish the half built levees the ACOE forced Ascension Parish to stop building, widen I-10, help us build our commuter train, and maybe a high speed rail project connecting the Texas triangle, Lake Charles, BR, and NOLA per chance?

The Mississippi River flows ~3 miles an hour through baton rouge/new orleans. At this speed only silt (River silt) and larger grain sands are able to stick to the bottom.

I'm not to sure what you may be referring to as far vile crap/sludge goes but the MS River sediments are relatively clean. I think all the vile stuff you may be talking about are pesticides and chemicals and those are water soluble for the most part. That wouldn't be dredged up in large quantities if at all.

It's already in the marshes. Where do you think they get river silt from?

Heavy metals? Some honest studies and samples can quickly determine any problematic aspects of this enterprise re pollutants that would harm our doomed marshes. Doing something is better than doing nothing. IMO.

Of all the infastructure needs in this state, adding better railings and a shoulder to the Causeway isn't a top priority.

#1 priority should be the I10 I110 merge off the Miss River Bridge in Baton Rouge.
Then it should be some type of loop in Baton Rouge.
I-10 and I-12 should be 3 lanes, at minimum, everywhere.
