We'll designate Bamarep's re-education camps as labor and turn we'll kill two birds with one stone.

The current U6 unemployment rate as of December 2016 is 9.20.

But Trump told us it is 42%. Obama sure worked some magic the last few months to drop from 42% to 9.2%.

He should. A lot of people are under employed or have fallen out of the workforce.

I have a few colleagues (some PhD level) who only work part time. Their significant others have great jobs, so part time is an ideal balance for them

I think there was a qualifier in the 'part time' statistic = working part time for economic reasons.

Clearly all the anecdotes presented thus far do not meet that qualifier.

Now how they determine that 'economic reasons' are the factor is not at all clear to me. Do they just guess?

I don't know if he'll be able to do that well enough to fend off the "Unemployment Went From 4.8% Under Obama to 9.6% Under Trump" headline two and three years from now.

When? And isn't that simply the inverse if the labor participation rate?

Not in disagreement but link to where you've seen this. I haven't seen where he will make the switch.

Lol@liberals in this thread butt hurt because Trump wants more people to have jobs and is going to use a moral realistic measure to hold himself accountable.

Here's how that will be understood by our highly educated population, "Trump just took office and unemployment is up already!!!"

For what? To manage itself against? All numbers are published, U6 tracks U3 pretty closely and is down significantly since 2010. It's currently right around historic norms.

In listening to various people within the camp, Trump will be going by the U6 number.

quote:
U3 is the official unemployment rate. U5 includes discouraged workers and all other marginally attached workers. U6 adds on those workers who are part-time purely for economic reasons. The current U6 unemployment rate as of December 2016 is 9.20.

So unemployment is going to go from under 6% in Obama's last quarter to what, 9.5% in Trump's first quarter. Good luck explaining the nuance of that to people too busy playing Candy Crush and watching Dancing With The Stars to hear anything more than the unemployment rate has jumped 3.5%.

Trump's number may well be more accurate but all anyone is going to hear is that UE has increased...when the talking heads start to explain how the average person is going to go back to candy crush....

1.9 vs 9.2. Yep almost identical.
