quote:

"I want Dreamers for our children also. We’re going to work something out. On a humanitarian basis it’s a very tough situation. We’re going to work something out that’s going to make people happy and proud. But that’s a very tough situation."

By way of further explanation, Trump stated:

"They got brought here at a very young age, they’ve worked here, they’ve gone to school here. Some were good students. Some have wonderful jobs. And they’re in never-never land because they don’t know what’s going to happen."

Glad to see Trump coming around to a common sense, humane position. It only make sense to let those brought here as children stay. This is what I've been saying and has been one of my biggest problems with Trump. I've been called every name in the book by posters on this board. Apparently, I've been the one promoting Trump's actual position. Who knew?

But, it makes sense. Letting them stay, work, go to school, and be productive rather than instituting costly deportation proceedings to send kids back to countries they do not now is really the only possible solution.

Good for Trump. I might end up supporting him yet.

Trump has never said he's going to deport "EVERYBODY". It's a liberal fabrication

No it hasn't.

Sure, he has implied it in hushed tones if you listened very carefully and then got the crowds rocking with "they have to go!"

His whole campaign on this issue was a BIG LIE and then he would give statements here and there that he would work things out. So, sure, you can pull up quotes. I saw them too. but anyone who pretends that his position here was conciliatory or anything like what he said in this interview OVERALL is just being deceitful.

You know this. You scrambling and pretending that nothing is different is kind of sad and pathetic, actually.

I'm happy with deporting criminals and evaluating the rest on a case by case basis (basically try to weed out the non-contributors and freeloaders). The main issue is building a "wall" (literally or figuratively) to stop illegals from entering in the future.

Guess that kills the "HE IS LITERALLY HITLERRRRRRR" argument

Hopefully he still deports the dreamers with criminal records though

So are you thrilled that he isn't deporting everyone or are you melting because you think he won by lying about whether he would deport everyone?

1. Humane deportation
2. Amnesty
3. Look the other way

One of these costs us the least money, and I'm not sure which, but whichever it is is the best choice.

That's so nice of you to care about the right wingers. Does it still hurt that Trump won?

I'm thrilled he isn't deporting everyone.

Why would I be melting? How am I melting?

What the heck?

Of course he lied. He was lying the whole time. I didn't know for sure he was lying because, well, why should I not take him at his word? I disagreed with him very much on this and other issues. But, if he does the right thing, I'll support him. Good for him.

I did not vote for Hillary. She was going to be a complete disaster. So, however Trump does well, it is all a bonus to me. I'm happy if he does this. Why would I melt.

Why can't you just enforce the law as written as the ability presents itself?

Combine that with border security and fines for hiring illegals and you are on to something.

Follow that with, register as an illegal by x date or risk never gaining access to the US legally again.

The final blow is that if you register by x date you have a path to citizenship that includes all rights. If you miss that deadline there may be a way to retain working and living in the US but never getting the full rights of citizenship. You are forever a guest worker that pays taxes but doesn't get refunds.

Something like that should be a good compromise, no?

Far right: Deportation force
Far left: Give them 3 already completed ballots in elections

We can meet in the middle somewhere.

Funny that you think he didn't. He said it over and over again. He didn't know what he was talking about though and has probably since learned that it is much more complicated than he thought.

Apparently, he was always talking about the criminals. No one disagrees with that. But, he had to say "all illegals" to get the support and differentiate himself from Rubio and Bush.

He basically has the same plan as the Gang of 8 now. But, he couldn't get elected with that. He lied. But, whatever.

But he is Hitler. Liberals have said it over and over. Are you implying that majority of liberals and those that are far right aren't able to have critical thinking and realize how to understand what he says? I have known this for a long time.

Trump is not going to break up a family and let's all remember his first statement about illegals ending with "some of them are good people." The only concern I have is those that did have kids here should face a penalty. Now what penalty could or should be is a matter of debate but it has to be one that discourages future illegal immigration.

Which is what I was advocating for the other day and you were disagreeing with me over and over again.

Now that Trump is saying what I was saying, you're wanting to compromise.

Okay. Fair enough. There's room on the Trump Immigration Train. I'll allow it.

Sorry. I couldn't resist. You seem like a good guy, roadGator. I don't think we actually disagree that much. I want a secure border, enforcement of law, deportation for criminal illegals, etc. I just want there to be room for mercy to be extended where appropriate.
