What's his game plan?

Cubans in South Florida fricking hate the Castro regime and want a hardline stance from Washington against it.
Trump promised them that he would do just that.
Trump barely won florida by 2%.
He has to take care of the base.

There is not one policy of Obamas that Trump won't try to overturn.
Burn that into your skulls

Which would mean if successful then he will have rolled back the decline of the US by 12 to 16 years.

Despite Obama's best intentions, the travel and trade policies benefit a horrible regime. Everyone wants peace with Cuba and wants whats best for the Cuban people but the money goes to the regime.

Russia stopped funding Cuba. Venezuela stop funding Cuba because of their collapse.
Cuba was prime to have to either finally make real changes or collapse.
Then Obama opened relations with them to help prop them up without requiring fundamental changes.

He thinks anything he can overturn that is associated with Obama's name will endear him to his simple-minded fan base.

Ending the Cuban embargo and opening Cuba up to trade and travel is the quickest way to end the Commumist regime in my opinion.
But the Cuba-American lobby in South Florida may be the most disproportionately influential lobby in Presidential elections. Florida is a swing state with a lot of electoral votes. Getting the votes of Cuban Floridians is essential for a Republican to win the state, as the rest of South Florida is overwhelmingly Democratic.

More importantly, I'll never understand the idea of thinking that withholding the ideals and practices that have shown to be the most effective is going to somehow make those who we are withholding them from accept those ideals and practices.

You're going to get the shite downvoted out of this comment, and my comment will piss them off too, but you are completely correct. Anything bad, good, or even not affecting anyone that obama has his name assigned to, trump has figured out will help his blindly loyal base if he changes it for the worse or the better. The mere sight of obama was just too much for some people.

I never really understood this policy.
We embargo Cuba because of the Russians and Communism (yay), only to make China, Vietnam, Laos, etc our leading trade partners.
So why dont we embargo the other communists?

Many of us still believe the Castro regime was somehow responsible for the assassination of JFK and believe the Castros should be gone before beginning normal relations with Cuba.
Raul dies then we should begin relations with Cuba.
