The federal government will make crucial Obamacare-related subsidy payments to health insurers in August despite threats by President Donald Trump to end them, a White House spokesman said Wednesday.

The decision to make the August payments came a day after the Congressional Budget Office warned that Obamacare premiums wouldsoar an additional 20 percent above projected price increases if the payments are ended in 2018.

The CSRs, worth about $7 billion this year, compensate insurers for offering qualified low- and moderate-income Obamacare customers discounts in their their out-of-pocket health costs, including co-payments and deductibles. Those discounts are mandated by law.

Here is the BS he was spewing

They should end. The left will revolt though. $7B in taxpayer money to keep the dead bodies from piling up on the streets. Is it worth it? I guess if it prevents that it is. I'm not entirely sure though as I don't recall the dead body piles previously.

As do I, but he only committed to paying August. My suspicion (or, at least, my hope) is that he's indicated that if they don't get something done, he will cut them off.

OR, he has nothing to replace it with yet and doesn't want to leave the roughly 2 million subscribers without anything.

But, you'd probably hate any little thing about him so not surprised.

While his comments are hypocritical, I can't really give him too much criticism since it seems to be a "stuck in between a rock and hard place" position.

No it would not have.

It would have meant a lot of people would not have subsidies and would be uninsured.

The GOPe knew Trump was full of crap on this and couldn't politically stop the welfare.

He is not going to be able to make big changes given he no real political stick to weld in the fight with Congress. He keeps doing absolutely STUPID political things and keeps running his mouth.

Thus the thread yesterday suggesting he play the only real political card he has that will bring about real change for America---resigning if Congress will do what he ask.

Your trust in Congress is foolishly misplaced.

So Trump didn't understand the uniparty?

I don't fully understand it either.

I actually think this is the best move he has politically

If he ends the subsidies he gets blamed (rightfully or not) for taking away the subsidies and pricing people out of their insurance

By continuing payments month to month, the instability will cause insurance companies to slowly raise their premiums (due to unsure continuation of governmental subsidies). He can then point out how the prices keep going up and he has continued the subsidies and point to the failure of Obamacare

No he did not.

He should have stopped with the Twitter in January. He should have had a Trump healthcare plan that he sent to Congress and touted that plan in Trump rally after rally.

He should have held those rallies in ever republican district he could get too and talked mostly about the Trump Healthcare plan. He should have put the republicans in the position of voting on the Trump Healthcare plan.

The Reagan Tax Cuts were his when they arrived in Congress. He went on national TV and took ownership of the cuts and ask Americans to write and wire their Congressmen to support the bill. We covered up Congress with letters and they were afraid to vote against it.

Trump thinks political power is promoting his name. He needs to promote his policies and they need to be clear and concise and real.

8 years. Not a single passable plan from Congress after R blustering about it.

That's all on Trump?

If the goal is to keep Trump in office then probably so. If the goal is make real change for the benefit of Americans then it is not.

I am not interested in the egos of politicians. I am interested in their actions and changes. Trump missed a huge opportunity here to raise the pressure on Congress to pass a good healthcare bill.
